Title: when did you start?
Post by: ben_ess12 on February 20, 2011, 09:50:40 am
hey everyone

im in yr 11 so this SAC thing is still knew to me i just want to know when you guys started doing your serious/hardcore revision before the SAC?

i have my first one for business in 2 weeks, and i have been going over everything i do in class and a bit more for about 20 mins every night and the same for p.e...
we still have one topic to cover in class but i feel pretty confident, i was just wondering when people started rreally revising or if constant small revision was the best?

i plan on today finallising my notes i have been making since begginning of term and writing out bits i need to remember and so on....
thanks everyone :)

In year 11 - 1-2 weeks before the SAC.

always progressive study, I find that hardcore/last minute studying just makes me panic and after the SAC, all the material i learnt just gets ejected. So its not long term either. ):

for my year 11 subjects I rarely studied (perhaps the night before) but for my 3/4 I would start to seriously work about 4 or 5 days beforehand. Eventualy it got to a point where in my 3/4 we had 4 sacs in 4 weeks and that meant that I just studied for the sac as i learnt the new material over 7 dyas. That was shit.

IMO two weeks before is a long time, but it's up to you.

I agree with Water....I rarely actually "studied" for a specific SAC. I just listen in class, take everything in regularly. Do all my regular homework. It should be plenty. Even in Year 12 I only studied for SACs the night before for 1-2 hours. It's the regular work that really makes a difference

cheers everyone :)
i am finding the same thing with the progressive work (even though i havent had the SAC yet.) it is easier to recall the info from earlier on even just in class when the teacher asks questions and such.
thanks guys:)

In year 11, I started progressively revising the weekend before the SAC. If the SAC was on a Monday, then I'd start on the Thursday auparavant.

I probably started revising for my SACs the day before, I don't recommend this technique. I think Water's advice has been the best so far.

Depends on the subject. For sacs where it's just going to require a lot of writing and coherent arguments, maybe some study at recess and/or lunch. I recommend this if you've got good short term memory. =)

Start revising 3 days before a SAC generally (somtimes 2) for Legal Studies. Just memorise the crap outta it.
For Maths, haven't had one yet but the revision would be for me I would think 3/2 days before SAC I'd do info sheet with examples/formulas.
Eco, 3 days before for sure as it's concepts you need to understand from what I gather. Difficult to rote learn.
English, I'll do 1/2 practice essays for teacher to correct with tips and that's about it for each SAC. + memorising quotes, topic sentences.

I don't sound like too much of a school freak, but my study techniques have served me well for 10yrs so I may as well continue. I'm the type if I memorise something too early, with a fairly big social life I tend to forget stuff anyway in the long run. Cram, cram, cram! :P

Yeah depending on the subject, about 4 or 5 school day before the SAC.

For English though, obviously more time is needed, but for Bus Man and PE, about 4 or 5 days before.

The day before or the morning before to be honest. Sometimes at lunch time if the SAC was last session. :P

I think in the end it matters in what works for you.
For some people it's perfectly fine to study the day before or even not at all

For some people it's better to study 4-5 days or even before

It doesn't prove you are smarter or dumber or anything.
It comes down to your short term and long term memory capability.

Experiment a bit in year 11 and determine what's best for you

If you're depending on your STM for a SAC you're REALLY leaving it late :P
STM lasts for under 30 seconds :P
