My friend is wondering if it is possible to gain entrance to Melb Medicine through Melb Science.
Im guessing you have to do 3 years of Science to gain entry but what are the requirements?
-
Yes, it's just as possible as it is through biomed. This should explain criteria:

-
So need to complete anatomy, biochemistry and physiology in 2nd year?
-
You also need to do the GAMSAT.
The gamsat is like the umat.
Go to the gamsat site and download the informational booklet for more information.
To do well in the science section of the gamsat you need to have 1st year uni level chemistry knowledge, 1st year biology knowledge (i've heard you can get by on year 12 biology though, also first year bio at melb/monash is pretty much year 12 over again,) and year 12 physics/ foundation uni physics (its the uni equivalent of year 12 physics, im doing this).
I'm not sure if you mean commerce OR Science in your signature but you can't do them both.
Melbourne doesn't have double degrees anymore.
-
The science section is the section you should worry the least about, the first two sections are much more of a concern for science students

Yes, so your first year needs to have 2 bio and 2 chem subjects
-
My friend does Physics, but not Biology and Chemistry. He is sort of concerned and unsure if he can do it without Chem and Bio knowledge.

Haha Im aiming Commerce or Science, as the OP suggest it is for my friend.

The gamsat? No, you'll need biology to at least y12 and chemistry to 1st year uni definitely
Medicine? Only at UoM will he need the prereqs, other unis don't require them
-
So its like almost impossible to do without early knowledge? We're both tripping out..
-
Early knowledge? If you walk into it having never studied biology or chemistry before you will fail section 3, that I can guarantee. If you've done bio/chem to year 12 level...you'll have no chance on most of the chem questions but you should be able to understand most of the bio questions. If you've done them to 1st year uni, you'll understand the questions.
-
Thats the point, my friend isnt doing any of these subjects in VCE but will in Uni.
-
The chemistry unit they offer for people who haven't done chemistry is pretty much the year 12 equivalent as far as im aware.
So he'll still struggle unless he takes chemistry which is actually university level.
Biology shouldn't be a problem because (much to my chagrin) year 1 uni biology is pretty much VCE over again and thats the only bio unit they offer, even for people who have done VCE bio.

If they go to Melbourne when they finish VCE they can do Fundamentals of Chemistry sem 1, Chem 1 sem 2 and then Chem 2 in the summer semester which would give them everything they need to know (AS FAR AS I'M AWARE haha).
And Biology, I believe it doesn't matter if you've never studied it before or done it in VCE. Know a few people in your friend's shoes.
