I'm still improving though!

In the same boat D:

Every time I ask, she just directs me back to the comments sheet she handed out a few days after our orals. Very annoying. I know it screwed it anyway, probably a B+, at the best an A.

That sucks, our school only gives out indicative results so we don't even know how well we actually did... bs

What was your topic? I'm sure you did better than you think.

We only get the letter grade & comments, we don't get told the actual number (although we know the range of each grade).

Top 4 in an MHS Class should get 45-50, don't stress about it that much!

I am getting 7-8/10 in my practice essays, teacher is an examiner and author of one of the English textbooks. I am obviously improving but is it enough to get a 35 ?

Hahaha nah, I definitely screwed it LOWL.

Indicative, what a nightmare :/ You should be able to demand at least a letter grade!

7/8's will easily get you a 35 if you have decent SACs :)

Yeah, I would say so, and considering you'll improve throughout the year it should be easily achievable.

But you guys get standardized? If everyone is C+, then if ppl get A- A+ in the exam, your SACs would get high marks.

Btw, I blew my oral...... Out of all the years, VCE had to be the one ):

We are getting our marks back tomorow for english
Just curiously - when do we get to know your real aims for VCE?

For example English [ 50 ] , MM [ 50 ] etc. :P

7-8/10 is pretty good for just the beginining of the year, I think I was getting 6-7 at the start and still ended getting above 40, so you're looking fine.

It's going to get standardised, or at least all the english teachers want it. Except maybe GM and BM.

I don't see why your school would want to screw the whole cohort over so bad, especially in a subject like English.. Doesn't matter if it's all done in the name of ranking, but seriously they could've chosen far, far better topics for you guys to do!

They do everything they possibly can to screw us over.
My Psych SAC had a purposeful spelling error that rolled people...nothing to do with Psych itself :P

I wouldn't say it's screwing over the cohort so much as truly discriminating between those who are truly capable and those who aren't.  There is every likelihood the exam piece will be terrible (see: Voxi 2009), so really, it's actually a good thing.  Also it leads to a fairer set of rankings, as the harder the task is, the more accurately students will be put in their actual place...

BM wrote it yes.
Difficult SACs are good, but when a majority of classes are unable to get higher than a B, something is wrong. Its attributed to the image being very difficult largely.

This is going to be the hardest results thread in the history of the site to keep in order...

On topic, I get my Maestro SAC results back in another week or so (I butchered half of my essay but half was all right so B or C+ ish in the old scale).

Then I have a SAC on Rugmaker (Eeeuuugggh!) 1st week back from holidays.

My teacher read out an A+ response to our 'GST' SAC (LA) that he got from another teacher (who called it a 'model response'), and it was seriously an average response, despite it being 5.5 pages (with ~13 words/line in 90 mins with no reading time). My teacher said that he would give it a B at tops...

The injustice of our system.

(just a random rant)

Another teacher, I'm guessing you don't know who?

So basically, he's in the top of your Cohort, when his essay is no better than any of the others?

Crossmarking anyone?

There is cross-marking, but it is only an average, so he will still have a higher score that everyone else. Most of the other teachers marked much more harshly, giving most of their class Cs to Bs. In most classes there was only 1 or 2 As (and no A+s). I don't where this teacher pulled this essay from and gave it an A+, especially when my teacher said to us that he would give it a B at most... :(

(and I'm not judging his essay his essay btw, I'm just going on what my teacher told us in class today, and seeing as though he taught a 50 last year, he knows his stuff)

And WTF, my english teacher wrote a stupid comment. I said the author, Reynold (or something along those lines). And she wants me to say Father Reynold. Father isn't even in his name! When did English become a religious affair!

That is WTF. I don't use 'Prime minister Gillard' or 'Dr Chang', I just use 'Gillard' and 'Chang' respectively. Thats a bit too picky

Have you done yours?
Well I just memorized mine which made me stand out I guess from everyone else (most people read straight off their cards)... it was a text response so there's not a lot you can do in terms of engaging with the audience... but I did finish with a strong rhetorical question which might have helped.

What's the point of this thread...?
Obviously people are only going to post good scores or scores that they say are bad i.e 17/20 to get some kind of pity from randoms on an online forum..
If anything it's demoralizing to see people get such scores and furthermore when say that they arent happy with it especially if you're the kind of person like me who would be stoked in getting a B...

Sigh, I guess I should post my mark for context.

25/30    My english teacher ripped my essay apart, lost 5 marks purely because I didn't link evidence properly, she wouldn't/reluctant to boost mark, even when I questioned why she took so much for being so severe. The cross marking for my essay was rejected by english department, as it would encourage "marking because of whinging students." Got fucked over  :smitten:

Everything will be re updated after Chem Exam.
I know how you feel man, I lost 3 marks for spelling on my context piece! Spelling! Who the fuck takes marks off for spelling? :@

Anyway, just got to learn from it. I've got a big ass list of words that I'm learning to spell as well as some of those 'i before e except after c' things... and I'm doing half an hour a day of spelling practice. Not gonna spell a single word wrong in the next sac.

I remember the word 'analogy' by 'ANAL-ORGY' without the 'r'

^ Same with our orals. They didn't bother cross marking so all of the other classes had really high marks, whereas our class got lower marks but we have the stronger English students...
It should be a rule that they HAVE to cross mark. :|

we're gettting marked realistically for all our sacs, we have around 2 people still on 100.

we generally get 9-11 50's in english in a good year (last year wasn't great, still had quite a few), so i think its reasonable to have lots of people on quite high scores.

Yeah. Our teachers are SO harsh on marking though. Getting an A in our class is like getting an A+++++++++.
So for our Unit 3 Context mark they made us do 3 SACs just incase we screwed one up, and had a chance to make up for it.

2 50's !! far out, great effort.
Thanks. :D

Two people on 100 doesn't sound realistic at all. There's no such thing as a flawless English piece.

i don't agree with this thought. How then do they award tens? of course there is no flawless english piece, but when it is of such quality  it is awarded 100 percent. and as I said, our schoo ldoes particularly well at english; a 50 doesn't mean you have written a flawless piece but nevertheless you are still awarded perfect scores.

I don't think there is any such thing as a flawless English piece, but I think if you get full marks on a SAC or an exam it just means it is the piece that is the CLOSEST to being flawless.

The closet thing to flawless is not flawless.
Consequently meaning that a perfect 100/100 is not deserving.

I truly don't understand why some English teachers are so slack with marking. At the end of the day, your students SACs marks will just be bought down.

You're not awarded a perfect score. A 50 merely means you were better than everybody else.
Far from perfect.
You're neither awarded 100%.
A+'s on exams are just in comparison to everybody else's mark.
Somebody who only got 30% on an exam could get a 50 in any subject if they rest were atrocious.

You're argument is flawed. Just like every English piece.

When you have roughly 10 50's in a school for English, I don't think you can say that English teachers are so slack with marking. Obviously a student will not write a perfect piece, so to offer a 10 for an essay does not signify perfection, rather, you are so far ahead of the average that it can be considered relatively perfect.

But I do acknowledge that in some schools, there are teachers who mark particularly easily for the student's level. This false marking is does not augur well for good exam results.

I never said that the closest thing to flawless IS flawless.
I just said that is what gets you a top mark. If you get a 50 study score in English, obviously your work was the CLOSEST to being flawless.
