Title: Atonement

My class started it a week ago, and are focusing on the difference between the movie and the novel. I'd love to hear people's ideas on this, and see how you've been tackling it in your class. Any help would be much appreciated =D

Post by: iamtom on March 20, 2011, 04:42:56 pm: I've begun Atonement, we're about a week or two in. We're pretty much focusing on the same thing as your class, except at the moment we're concentrating solely on the book; after our first SAC on it, we're moving onto the differences between the two.

If your interested in an essay topic, I"m doing atm, its abit challenging, cause I"m still new to the book, as in (Not much discussion yet). But it does force you to think.

Ultimately, Ian McEwan believes that Atonement is unattainable. Discuss

Besides atoment, the other thing we've been focusing on is reality - What parts of the novel are real, and what are made up? What is reality? Has Briony changed the reality of Cecilia and Robbie by writing this after they've died? Who is to say that what you experience is real, and after you've died and can't remember it, did it even happen?

Just some food for thought :)

1. The notion of reality and fantasy is delicately explored in Ian McEman's novel Atonement. To what extent does directer Joe Wright delve into this idea in the film adaptation of the novel?
