Post by: ech_93 on March 23, 2011, 09:25:04 pm
Does anyone have any core SACs that they can upload?

Preferably ones with answers please, but whatever will do!

I remember that one! That was the 9 period SAC on the Core, right?

I remember that we had a bunch of data that we had to analyse... it was all very confusing, until i actually found the data and did most of that SAC at home :P

http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vce/studies/mathematics/further/furthermathindex.html#H2N100A4
Under "Application Task Sheets" - and then from then on:

(Using 2003 Data as an example):
UNIVARIATE
1. a) Generate 30 random countries from the set of data. (from calc)
   b) From the generated data, split it into groups of male and female literacy
  c) Why did we generate the data from the calculator?
2. write down the 5 stats for both literacy groups.
3. Make boxplot with the data (combined - using one set of data).
4. IOR? (Describe the boxplot - shape, centre, spread of each boxplot)
5. Make boxplotS with TWO sets of data ( ie, the male and female lit groups)
6. Fences?
7. Compare and describe both boxplots.

BIVARIATE
8. Using the same generated data from Q1, separate based on GDP and TVownership. Organise according to LOW, MEDIUM or HIGH GDP groups.
9. Which is the independent and dependent variable?
10. Make scatterplots for each GDP group.
11. Discuss form, direction, strength and possible outliers.
12. Interpret and compare slope for each. (For every one unit of the x variable, the y variable increases by...)
13. Interpret r and r^2 values for each.

RESIDUALS:
14. Create a residuals graph for LOW gdp group (to the nearest whole number)
15. Sketch or generate on calc... but i bet on the SAC you guys will have to SKETCH. (My class let us print it out instead... we connected our Ti-nspires to his comp and he printed out the graphs so all we had to do was stick them in the sheet.)
16. Interpret the results of the residuals. Is a linear model suitable? Why/why not?

TRANSFORMATIONS
17. From the residual analysis in Q14, and the origial scatterplots in Q10, choose one that may benefit from transformation (you may have to make residuals for the MEDIUM and HIGH GDP groups as well). State the reason for your choise by referring to each resid plot and values of r^2.
18. State the tranformations that may be suitable and reasons.
19. Select the tranformation most suitable and apply it to the plot.
20. Was the transformation effective? How did it change r^2?
21. Select the most appropriate equations that can be used to predict for TV ownership if x=3000 and x=588.

NOTE: THIS IS WHAT I COULD REMEMBER FROM THE SAC AND FROM RANDOM NOTES INSERTED INTO MY CALCULATOR. Please don't be frustrated if you don't understand my questions. Answers will vary because everyone will have different data values. Also, our school skipped over time series because we didn't get to cover that yet when we did the sac.

ENJOY!

Thankss.

6. Fences?
What do you mean by fences?
As in outliers or something else ..

I meant, "What are the upper and lower fences for each boxplot? Are there any outliers?"
