Title: VCE Exam Lectures for mid year examinations
Post by: panicatthelunchbar on April 09, 2011, 03:47:31 pm
Hi everyone,

I'm sure everybody is looking forward to these holidays :)
In the past few weeks I have been given a lot of information about upcoming lectures from various companies for the midyear exams!
BUT because these are my first midyear exams, I wasn't too sure which ones to go to :/ Theres Neap, and some other ones.

Does anyone have any information about these lectures? Past experience? Advantages, Disadvantages?

Thanks :D

I got the ACCESS education flyers where the lectures go for 2 hours and it's like 30 something dollars.. But from what I've heard that despite their spam like advertising, TSFX is really comprehensive and worth it for the price ($95) and it goes on for like 7 hours or something? (correct me if I'm wrong)

Pathway to Genius is 10.5 hours for $47 (http://pathwaytogenius.com.au). Access education is pretty good as well apparently, they go for 2 hours for around $40 I think.

Is Pathway to Genius legit? Seems very very cheap....6 trial exams? 47 dollars?

+1, and I'm highly sure one of the endorsements is a lie - The school this person comes from I'm quite sure didn't get a 90+ :P

haha Mount Erin in Frankston = :knuppel2:

I booked tickets and talked to the lady at their office via phone. I don't know about the other teachers coz I'm just taking Biol but Andrew Douch (Douchy's biology podcast) is taking it. I agree, it's pretty cheap.

I haven't been yet, but it sounds pretty good. If you have any questions best just to call them because
the receptionist lady answered all my questions.

I think I might totally go to the Accounting one....

And turns out the whole methods class from school is roadtripping it to the methods lecture, according to my girlfriend.

Hi All,

Hope I'm not breaking any rules posting this, but I'd like to clear a few things up..

I'm a member of the Pathway team, and I appreciate the feedback on this thread. I think our site makes it a little confusing...

Essentially we're a new company (backed by a larger company) who are offering revision lectures to students in Melbourne. After consulting  with many students we felt that there was a market for high quality programs without the expensive price tag charged by others.

Our events 8 hours are at RMIT in the city with teachers like Andrew Douch, Meg Adem from Scotch College and Linda Harvey from Mac Robs among others. Then there's a 2.5 hour webinar the next day students view from home with a different presenter.

In terms of how we have kept costs down: we're holding the events at RMIT Uni which has lower room rental rates than other locations and most of our teachers are working at reduced rates to what our competitors are paying.

However, from a marketing view what we're trying to do is get the word out about what we're doing and pricing will probably increase as we become more well known.

If you feel we aren't a legit company, please feel free to search for our business registration or give our office a call. You can call up the tax office etc. Details are on our site.

All our testimonials are on record with contact details about each, I'm happy to show these to anyone who calls.

Also ATAR & Luken if you PM me I'm happy to send you no cost tickets so you can see for yourself what we're doing and report back to everyone once you've attended. (I can't offer anyone else tickets though).

Hope that clears things up.

I think it's a good thing when people think we're too good value for money :P

Holy crap, lucky bastards :P Looks fairly legit to me anyhow. Doubt anything which has Douchy on board can be that dodgy.

EDIT: I'm going to laugh so hard if ATAR's at the PM limit again and can't get his free ticket.

My friend paid close to $300 for 2 TSSM lectures at the start of the year and she felt they were a complete waste of time/money.

Quick question to pathway to genius,
im a little confused by the wording, so any given lecture (eg  accounting) will run for 10.5 hrs, one day, and costs $47? Or are the days divided?
Is it 10.5 hours how long are the breaks (if any) ?
Thanks.

The accounting lecture is actually totally sold out at the moment, but each subject has a main lecture at RMIT university between 9am-5pm. Then
there's a 2.5 hour online class the next day with a student who got a perfect '50' in the subject who talks about exam tactics and exactly
what it takes to get a high 40's or 50 score in your subject.

For Instance on the 4th of June we have the psyc lecture w/ Ms. Meg Adems running between 9-5, then the next night between 8-10.30pm we have the online class for psychology.

These online classes are recorded if you miss them. But our goal is to make Pathway to Genius the most intensive exam prep. program in Australia. Hope that clears it up.

No lecture unit 3 - A
Lecture unit 4 - A+

Worked for me, plus the lecture (TSFX) gave me some notes to work from (got around 15 marks more in unit 4 exam)

From memory, there are two presenters, and you get ian for 2 of 3 days. The other presenter is a bit dry, but still knows her stuff.

no. i had him for a free lecture anyway, he wasn't that great

Yeah Douchy's podcasts are great! I went to his mid year lecture last year and i felt that it was a bit of a let down. He didnt cover topics in much detail as there wasnt enough time etc, he just went through the major topics briefly. From memory the notes that he gave out were pretty comprhensive. Worth a try, if you like go again unit 4.

For chem i think ill go to Pathways.

If anything, the more you learn in a lecture, the worse indicator it is of your progress.
Everything should just be revision.
The most i look for in a lecture are like "Tricks" or exam technique..
Not like a copious amount of notes 3 weeks before an exam... which i'll never get through lol
Title: Re: VCE Exam Lectures for mid year examinations
Post by: HERculina on April 17, 2011, 02:16:22 pm
i don't get that tip :S
D:
he tells you to imagine that you CUT yourself on the side of a glass pyramide.
and the pyrimidine bases are Cytosine, Urasil and Thymine - starts with C U T
GET IT!? :D

i also like the wheelbarrow one for NAD and FAD, the owning two pairs of 23 recipe book to describe genome and i think it was the picking up the rubbish thing to describe increasing substrate/enzyme concentration :)

For psychology, Pathways is probably the best: http://www.pathwayseducation.com.au/

The chief assessor Roger Edwards (who also writes the answer sheet and teaches all the assessors how to mark the papers) as well as Ross Down, the writer of the Grivas psych books takes them, so its very helpful both for the content of the course, as well as tips for the exam  :)

EDIT: it's probably 2-3 times cheaper than tsfx and other big companies as well.

i have already booked my lectures from tsfx, but hearing about this "pathway to genius" seminars, i have a feeling i might go to it as well... is it legit? has anyone been? cause it sounds too good to be true :S
it's not that good. u don't really need 6 exams when there are like 50 on AN not to mention from teachers and school as well. Notes? there are better notes out there. podcast? is just a nono.

I got a flyer for Engage ... seems pretty good 6.5 hours for $52 + notes + questions (I'm not fussed about practice exams, I think I have more than enough :P) Anyone know if this company is any good? It's for Bio & Chem.

apparently not...
im not going to any i dont think
i went to engage biology .. it was biggest waste of 7 hours of my life.
i would have learned more if i stood outside and watched my lemon tree grow.

to be completely honest
ive been to many lectures

i HIGHLY DISCOURAGE anyone to go to engage ... srsly ur better of sitting at home watching ants have sex.. u will learn more about inheritance/genes ....

bio engage lecture was honestly biggest waste of time possible.

Yes I completely agree LOL engage is so shit.

Complete waste of time. Methods lecturer was so bad, went so slowly and so many mistakes in the notes.

OMG Engage was shit today for methods..
