Title: Practice exam scores!
Post by: jane1234 on May 20, 2011, 12:14:59 am: Hey guys, I just started my chem practice exams... I did okay on the first one (90%) but it slipped down on the second (82%)... my marks don't seem to be improving :S Even for Bio...I've done 6 and they fluctuate by up to 10 marks (from like 70%-87%) and there doesn't seem to be a net improvement. I take notes of what I did wrong but I never seem to improve! What am I doing wrong??? Is anyone else finding this?

Also, slightly off-topic, but what kind of exam scores do you need for a 50 in Chem assuming rank#1?

I got a 50 in chem in 2008 and I am quite certain I dropped 2-4 marks in each exam. (I was ranked 1 in a non-competitive school)

It is quite normal to have fluctuating practice exam marks. These exams have varying difficulty and obscureness. The breadth of knowledge is important in chemistry, you just have to keep doing more exams/questions, and maybe read other textbooks.

Give it time you'll be fine!

not too bad, my class did that one about a week ago . they averaged 52-53...so that's not too bad!

Post by: Vincezor on May 20, 2011, 04:22:00 pm: I've been doing rather poorly on the Insight exams compared to the other companies. From the two that Ive done, I think the average was around ~75% for Insight, whilst the other exams I've been getting between mid 80s and mid 90s

I think I only did open book + untimed for the first two exams that I did, and since then I've been doing it under 90mins (no reading time though, should probably incorporate that into it) plus the data-book for the others..

And I've done a fair few Insight... so Vincezor's post gives me hope :P
