I am. I can't do half the shit in trial exams without peeking at the worked solutions.... siggghhhh. My school crammed in everything at the last minute.. still have a chem sac next week! :'(
-
I am! Big time! Have a pretty crappy teacher and are rushing every so much right now :(
Not looking forward to it all!
However, goodluck :)
-
same - proteins/dna sac monday...
-
I am aswell, We have our protein/dna sac on friday. I'm only freaking about about the DNA/Medicine related stuff, im good with fats/denaturation, thank god lol.
-
Yes. Just barely scraped an "A+" for the 2009 VCAA exam. To be real honest, I don't think I should've gotten the A+, seeing as I found alot of the multiple choice familiar - probably from checkpoints. Got absolutely owned in the theoretical aspects, confidence has just dropped like a brick.
Not to mention I have an aspirin SAC tomorrow... arghhh

If you're getting an A+, you shouldnt be worried rofl :P
I'm sure many of us barely want to scrape an A, esp for chem
I'm not too freaked out. Not yet in any case. :O
-
This may be a stupid question, but apart from the Sodium Salt of Aspirin Q, what did most people find hard?
-
3 SACs next week for me o.O
-
2 sacs on friday and 2 sacs next week... so much for "sac free week"
-
2 sacs on friday and 2 sacs next week... so much for "sac free week"
Yeah omg.. got a methods SAC next friday in our "SAC free week". Instead of spamming exams everyday, I'm reduced to having to study for a methods test, atleast for one night. Oh joy.

dw about that 2009 vcaa exam, that shit was hard
lol i hear that this years exam will be like 2009. i hope its not too bad.
-
Probably will be hard, seeing last year was easy
-
Apparently the teachers predict the exams to be like this:
2008 -> trial run for new study design, so easy
2009 -> hard because the year before was too easy
2010 -> somewhere in the middle between hard/easy. Probably the standard from now onwards
2011 -> between 2010 and 2009: so middle-hard.
-
I am, I'm being reminded everyday that I'm competing with some of smartest people I've ever met in my life. The other 3 guys in my class :(
-
Did my dna/protein sac today, was easy for me :P
Still haven't done my aspirin sac, and I must say my chemistry teacher is also horrible :(
-
Try doing the Lisachem and Neap 2011, not fun.
-
what'd you guys think of insight 2011?
I found it fairly straightforward, except for redox, forget that stuff :|
Yet to mark it though.
-
Yeah, Insight 2011 was really easy IMO, I'm starting to think that they are among the best for chem though, all relevant and not going off on a tangent like NEAP does. Lisachem this year was not like them at all :(
-

Insight is the easiest provider hands down haha.
-
Yeah I know they're easiest, but they are the only ones that have stayed on topic, Lisachem's trying to be all smart n shit like NEAP now :P
-
Anyone disappointed with STAV 2011? It was pretty easy and even one of the questions were stuffed up o.O
-
Yeah, wasn't much at all :(

I was happy with my performance on the exam, until i read this post.

Sozzle nacho!

btw, anyone going to the connect lecture tomorrow?
-
Anyone disappointed with STAV 2011? It was pretty easy and even one of the questions were stuffed up o.O
yeah. insight and stav have been the easiest so far.
just saving my TSFX and NEAP ones till next week, then VCAA VCAA VCAA VCAA.
-
do vcaa last they are the easiest!
-
do vcaa last they are the easiest!
2009 inclusive?

2009 inclusive?
Sure.. why not...
No but really, as I was doing that exam I was like :'( and by the end :buck2:

NEAP KILLS YOUR CONFIDENCE I CRIED WHEN I DID IT (NOT REALLY)
-
I know CSE made me cry though.
-
^^ welcome back water
-
Lol so I've only done 2 papers so far and not doing well at all,
1st one - Lisachem 2011, only got 50%
2nd - Stav 2008, 68%
So can you guys recommend me some of the easier ones I can get through first?
-
Insight 2011 is pretty easy, i only got 52% on lisachem but 92% on insight, just making silly mistakes on fragmentation.
-
wow you only got 52%? that makes me feel a lot better about my 50 lol.
Any other easier ones you guys know of?
-
To be fair though my Lisachem one was done as a school practice exam staright after a methods sac at like 3:30 after a day of school so, wasnt in my best shape.
-
our chem class did neap 2011 as their first practise exam - 20% average
-
lisachem 08-10, insight and stav are fairly straightforward well from the ones ive done so far..lisachem11 is a bitch..
-
VCAA 2008 if you want a nice easy exam to begin with. I know some say that it's not good to do VCAA at the start, but I'd much rather know that there is hope (if you do well) rather than thinking you're useless and shit at Chem, when in reality you could be coming up against some of the hardest exams produced!
-
our chem class did neap 2011 as their first practise exam - 20% average
One Word. Lol
PS: I"m going to do Lisachem 2011 again, see whats the hype about. I might have rushed it last time...
-
Thanks for all the suggestions.
-
I know CSE made me cry though.
yessssss that shit was so hard i was pulling out my hair.
-
NEAP KILLS YOUR CONFIDENCE I CRIED WHEN I DID IT (NOT REALLY)
story of my life. neap accounting were pretty bad, and they never gave enough space to write LOL
-

Umm try doing them question by question - Like do one question/one short section, and correct it with solutions. So that way you're not making the same mistakes over and over in the paper. All the papers are hard.. :( sigh. Hmmm.. get that A+ Chem notes book, READ IT, highlight stuff while going through the whole book, it really helped me coz I basically zoned out half the time in chem class and it summarises things up very well. :) The book itself is quite thin and small - can easily read it in 2-3 hours, maybe even less
-
Exambuster for Chemistry is the best. Sources all its questions from past VCAA exams, complete with worked solutions, assessor's comments and average marks. The questions are all still relevant to the course ranging from 2002 to 2009 i think, very good revision.
In terms of exams, the tough ones this year are LISACHEM, NEAP, and the confidence boosters are INSIGHT and STAV.
-
Lisachem: Decent, with some good questions and some dodgy ones --> 6/10
NEAP: Odd, with some very good questions, some really dodgy ones --> 6/10
CSE: Who the hell wrote that paper? --> -2/10
STAV: Quite good, with the odd dodgy question --> 8/10
Insight: Excellent papers, with good worked solutions --> 9/10
VCAA: Well, that's the standard. --> 10/10
-
Haha well said/summarised thushan - getting ready for MUEP?

and...
TSFX - "Are you sure you have the right subject?" 0/10
-
Bahahahah I can imagine that lady from TSFX... "Our papers are excellent, they are of the highest quality, and have been checked over and over by the most experienced of assessors..."
-
I find it funny how TSSM produces chem papers when TSSM stands for 'The Specialised School for Mathematics'
-
CSE are the worst.
their papers are extremely ugly and terribly set out too
i'd rather watch a dog take a dump than do a CSE paper
-

I like it. Good summary of CSE.

have you folks tried the kilbaha chem exams? , and how are they like?
-
They don't have any current study design exams do they?
-
kilbaha is ridiculous! well im just speaking for methods! they added a specialist "assumed knowledge" in one of their papers!

chemology's a joke! don't bother...
-
For the Lisachem 2011 One.
Their solution of M(KMnO4) = 197.1 gmol-1
But in actual fact its 158gmol-1.
For question 2 in Short Answer. Parent Molecular Ion is 71gram but their solutions says its 72gram
Just some errors I picked up.

Water, how did you find 2009 VCAA?
-
Water, how did you find 2009 VCAA?
Not as hard as everyone makes it out to be. Having said that, I only got 82% based on my own marking scheme.
Though, it really pinpointed what I have to study up on.
-
It's not that difficult, but it does test you.
-

Hehe, same mark as me! :D I reckon I could've gotten better. I'll admit, I geniunely did not know how to do the TLC or UV/Vis? theory that was in question 2. Other than that, I reckon I could've done the rest of the short answer. Silly Silly mistakes :(
-

Exactly! I didn't think it was THAT bad, however the aspirin with sodium added I had never seen before, but unfortunately for me VCAA 2009 was one of the first I had ever done, scared the shit outta me!
-
Last years was meant to be easy. I have been doing somewhat well on SACs, with mainly B's i STRUGGLED!!!! with 2010 exam. MASS FREAK OUT!
-
Water, how did you find 2009 VCAA?
Was the A+ like 78% or something? I'll do it on the extended-long weekend (MHS gave us 4 days off total), hopefully I manage an A+...
-
2010 was easy? If I was doing that in 1 hr 30mins, with nervous and pressure, I'd be screaming, fuck fuck fuck. PRESSURE!
-
i found 2008 quite difficult lol

It'll be Hard, so brush up on LISACHEM and NEAP 2011 and CSE 11 some very very tricky questions in there.
