Title: Human Resource Management Strategies
Post by: jsimmo on July 07, 2008, 05:36:39 pm
Does anyone have a list of HR strategies? There is always a question on the VCAA exam about these and i'm not fully aware of the different types.

There seems to be strategies that could be used for different things. For example, management would use different stategies to recruit staff (job description + job specification + interviews) than to improve staff satisfaction (rewards ect).

Wouldn't the strategies differ according to the case study? And wouldn't the most appropriate HR strategy be the one that seems the most obvious for that situation? (as opposed to memorising a list)

Yeah, they would change according to the given case study - and yeah, you would use the most appropriate strategy for that situation (like the examples I gave in my original post).

I'd just like to create a mind map of all the HR strategies and put them in a table with how each can improve HR management, so that way I already know the benefits of how they could improve the situation in the case study.

not sure if i'm the best person to help (this is the little bugger i lost marks for- i think i lost 1 or 2).

in the 2007 question, i think it referred to the recruitment stage, i think i answered something like, developing an attractive remuneration package so the best applicants are attracted to apply to the organisation. whoops.

you are absolutely right, the HR strategies change according to the case study, i think that's the type of question that i didn't practise enough. a mind map sounds like a great idea.

here's something that might help with answering a question like the 2007 one (lol and don't worry, they aren't my notes):

and don't forget- try to link all you strategies to how it improves productivity, as this is the essence of human resources- to maximise the outputs gained from the inputs (labour/humans)
