Hello all :)
I'm just making a new thread for this because I don't feel as if enough people got this so I just want to make sure it'll happen.
When the exam is finished, could someone please get a copy of the official exam paper? Normally this can be done by asking a supervisor, or asking one of your teachers. Usually it's not very difficult to do, so don't feel as if it won't work. Then, it would fantastic if you could email me the paper ([email protected]). As soon as I have it, Eddie (scocliffe) and I will start working on some proposed solutions that we will make available to you as soon as possible. It would be greatly appreciated if someone (ideally many people) could do this.

I'll try and get it from the supervisor, if not, the AP should give me a copy because she's my biology teacher :D

I second this, last year I had to wait a ridiculously long time to attempt the paper myself.
But this year I will be working tomorrow night so it's probably best I don't do it if everyone wants their results asap!

likwise....the supervisor told me "i was jeaopordising my position" b/c i forgot to fill in the front with my naame and number first...so had to do it at the end :P

Aww, reading the reactions on the exam thread, sounds like it was a bit tricky!
Did anyone get the paper? Please email me - [email protected] so we can get some proposed answers down! If someone manages to do it, but after 2pm, email me at work - [email protected].

The exam was sooooo easy except for a few silly mistakes on my behalf. I got the paper. You don't mind if i take photo's of it and send them to you? I can't get access to a scanner until 6pm.

Yeah as long as your phone camera is okay that'd be great! Send it to [email protected] because I have work in an hour (but I can still do the paper at work - I'm living the dream :P )

i agree. the easiness of it almost threw me off in a couple questions in a sense. haha

It was so easier that the answers were way too obvious. I think thats where a lot of people went wrong.

Lol. It's probably okay. They changed my student number and couldn't find my seat and made me sit at the back, then they found my name and they made me move halfway through reading time.

Well in B the waters evaporating because the person was swimming, so it wasn't a homeostatic mechanism per say - the person's body could already be cold from swimming and this could be making him/her even colder, and temp. is controlled by negative feedback so that eliminates it.

I don't think so cause it's not sweat, it's not homeostasis as the body itself isn't causing it.

really, well i thought the CNS would send impulses to sweat glands to secrete sweat??? but oh well can you describe to me how the other one is an example of homeostasis?

The protien is water soluble because it contains the hydrophillic R group on the outside whereas the hydrophobic r group is inside and therefore the protien is water soluble. It was something along those lines i can't quite remember exactly what i wrote.

13. I say it's B it's possibly not. There seems to be a bit of confusion concerning that question.

Yeah but for 16 right cause the pH is not at its optimum wouldnt that effect the shape of the active sites as pH 4 is not really an optimum for any of them ?

No, like if the person was sweating it would be homeostasis. But if you look at the wording, he's wet from the water in the swimming pool. The fact that he went swimming = he's wet = evaporation = cooling him down, but his body isn't actually causing the water to be secreted like if he was sweating, it's just there cause he went swimming.
Sorry, that's the best way I can explain it =P.

Do you guys think for the ADP+Pi qn that they will give both A-without us of enzymes and the fermentation because technically you do not produce ATP in anaerobic resp. you do not produce ATP in fermentation; you only produce it in glycolysis

pretty sure the answer is C-the yeast an fermentation one.

100% sure the answer is C. ATP is produced in anaerobic respiration, glycolysis is part of anaerobic respiration / fermentation. Human cells such as mature RBCs contain no mitochondria and respire anaerobically.
