Anyone have an idea?
There are lots of experts around here! please HELP us ~
(Exam from hell that's what it is!)
-
It will be lower than the usual 80% right?
-
Judging from the questions and how everyone else in my class went I rekon 61/75
-
no chance. i lost 25 marks... i counted after
-
If you can get me a copy of the exam then I can give you an estimation :) Please please please send it to me, I'm desperate to see how it was! Email it to [email protected].
-
I thought it was quite hard... I reckon the cut off will be lower...
-
Definitely lower.. I think it was quite hard compred to previous years..
-
wow..i'm not the only one.. :)
the last question about the graph annoyed me.. >:(
-
wow..i'm not the only one.. :)
the last question about the graph annoyed me.. >:(
The whole thing annoyed me... haha
-
Think it'll be around last years... so probably 59/75. It was challenging, but no more than last year's would have been under exam conditions...
No experimental design annoyed me... I learnt S.G.P.IV.T.R for nothing :(
-
I want it to be really low. I did so bad on M.C i've been beating myself up! I want to resit!
-
it was hard for me
-
Yeah I reckon you'd be looking at around about 60-62 ?
-
Pretty easy exam guys. I reckon around 62-63.
-
^ better be
51 57. Then it's okay if I don't do as well as I expected.
-
what did you guys put for the CO2 consumption graph ?
that the rate of CO2 consumption in photosynthesis was the same as the level of CO2 out put of cellular respiration in the cell
-
what did you guys put for the CO2 consumption graph ?
that the rate of CO2 consumption in photosynthesis was the same as the level of CO2 out put of cellular respiration in the cell
that is correct. :)
-
Would I get the mark if I said there is no net consumption of carbon dioxide for photosynthesis?
Dammit I forgot to mention cellular respiration.
-
62 I think.
-
I reckon 60 personally.
-
Would I get the mark if I said there is no net consumption of carbon dioxide for photosynthesis?
Dammit I forgot to mention cellular respiration.
Unfortunately, no.
They specifically asked for chemical reactions/processes, and wanted you to consider both the consumption of CO2 by photosynthesis and the production of CO2 by cellular respiration.
Your answer has pretty much just restated what you can get from the graph.
-
:-\mm yer i agree with 60
-
Nooooooo .......... I hope it is 58-61
-
oh what did you guys put down for that stupid poison ivy question about the kid and what is happening at the site of the redness?
-
That it was an alergic responce and inflammation occured
Obviously I wrote more but that was the main idea.
-
yer what occured at the site ... eg did was histamine released by mast cells did phagocytes rush to the area to engulf invading particles did arterioles dialate, did they become more permeable and leaky ?
-
I wrote at point X the rate of CO2 used for photosynthesis is overtaking the rate of produced by cellular respiration, hence growth is beginning to occur.
Will That be right???
-
mm nar it was o for CO2 consumtion therfore the rate of photosynthesis intake of Co2 was the same as the level of Co2 output of cellular respiration
-
yer what occured at the site ... eg did was histamine released by mast cells did phagocytes rush to the area to engulf invading particles did arterioles dialate, did they become more permeable and leaky ?
This really depends on what VCE teaches you, but poison ivy is not mast cell mediated and is a full T cell mediated immune response
-
zzz so if i said that mast cells released histamine and that phagocytes were drawn to the area this was wrong ? and swelling occured
-
Phagocytes and inflammation (swelling) is correct

Don't igE have something to do with poision ivy too which means B cells are involved?
-
zzz so if i said that mast cells released histamine and that phagocytes were drawn to the area this was wrong ? and swelling occured
That would be correct.
-
Don't igE have something to do with poision ivy too which means B cells are involved?
Poison Ivy is a type 4 DTH hypersensitivity. That means it uses T cells and phagocytosis/inflammation as far as I'm concerned.
If VCE teaches you only one mechanism for allergic reactions (IgE and mast cells) then that would have been correct. Having never done VCE, I can't say.

Yeah we did get taught all that.
-
i said something along the lines of phagocytes releasing interleukin/cytokines when they try to get rid of poison ivy which creates inflammation by dilating blood vessels, increasing blood flow (swelling) and increasing their p[ermeablilty so more macrophages leak to infected tissues, crowding around and causing pain? how many marks would you give this
-
yes I said that aswell would that get a mark????
-
i hopeee soooooo :D
anyway what has the highest A+ cut off mark ever been?
-
BTW what would the A cut off mark be around? Say, 50+ or?
-

I'd say you needed to get 60/75 of the exam right.
i hopeee soooooo :D

Highest was 62.5 in 2008
-

62.5 I think =]

For an A? :/ What about A+ then?
-

Im estimating that'd be the cutoff for A+, an A from my guess you'll need a minimum of 55 marks right

Why did the graph line in the last question go horizontal!?!?
I wrote that the reaction reached maximum efficiency =l
-

I wrote that the reaction reached maximum efficiency =l
yeah that's it I think, I wrote that the enzymes used in the reaction were saturated + some more BS I forgot ROFL.

Thought it was because CO2 became a limiting factor...

O crap, yeah that's probably it, and I can't remember if I had that in my response cause I had some other point in there. I think you're right... but I think it could be both?

That could be it.
I thought that the photosynthetic enzymes/ mechanisms became saturated at that point, and the chloroplasts were producing ATP/glucose at maximum efficiency.
-
It is because CO2 is a limiting factor. You're right.
-
Actually now that I think about it you're probably right... CO2 = limiting factor. Damnit! I was gonna write that down but I wasn't sure =l But wouldn't it be the same thing? If youre using maximum CO2 then its maximum efficiency? o.O am i going crazy?
-
Oh gosh... I'm glad I got 25/25 for mc, coz I really fell down on the short answer questions...
-
I couldn't think of the words limiting factor so i wrote down something that means the same thing. Hopefully VCAA get the gist (when i say that I hope they give me the mark even if i didn't use the biological terminology)
-
the exam was different then i had expected overall i did not finish and did really bad mistakes .
-
zzz what if you said that there were other limiting factors such as temperature and the amount of enzymes available to undergo photosynthesis which caused the graph to platue
-
There will be numerous answers as to why the graph flattened out.
Acceptable ones will include:
-CO2/H2O availability became a limiting factor
-CO2 could not be taken up any faster. i.e. surface area
-Photosynthetic enzymes/pigments became saturated
Temperature/wavelength of light is not acceptable because this was kept constant.

answer to question 21 for multi choice ?
-
answer to question 21 for multi choice ?
C is the best answer, but overall I think it is a relatively dodgy question.
-
mmm i put B :( dam guess that 23/25 -.- nooooooo
-
mmm i put B :( dam guess that 23/25 -.- nooooooo
If it makes you feel better, I got 23/25 on MC for the 2010 mid year. :)
Don't lose hope, you can still do very well.

Just curious, what score did you get overall?

Off the top of my head it was
Exam 1 70/75
Exam 2 68.5/75
Todays short answer looked relatively straight forward, so I would imagine you are in the box seat for a 50. :D
-
lowest cut off was 2006 which was 54/75
highest was 2008 for 62.5/75
last year was 59/75.
this exam was harder. according to everyone at my school who sat it.
im feeling 57 :)
-
therer was similar hype over last years exam i reckon itll be the same.
-
hey if i included a protien chanell in my phospholipid bi layer and labelled is is that ok ?
-
hey if i included a protien chanell in my phospholipid bi layer and labelled is is that ok ?
Of course, however the main point of the question was to show the orientation of phospholipids, so as long as the addition of proteins was complementary to this, then yes, I don't see anything wrong with that.
-
wat did ppl write for the diagram. The question that asked whether it was cellulose or the enzyme? >.<, i think i got it wrong :(
-
It was cellulose
-
stupid abscissic acid ... why is the dumb thing called abscic acid if it doesnt cause abscision :S grrr dam yo0u ethylene
-
I don't think I did very well :(
Anyone know what the lowest amount of marks for a C+ might be?
-
For last year's exam it was
35-40.5 out of 75.
Lose a maximum of 40 marks.
http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vce/statistics/2010/section3/vce_biology_ga10.pdf
I marked myself with the predicted answers.
64/75, which would be 128/150.
Hopefully VCAA will be around about the 60s.
So like a low-mid A+ (HOPEFULLY)
How hard should I be working in unit 4 or how high should I be aiming for unit 4 exam to get a SS of 45+ ?
-
Had a quick skim of the paper.
I think it was easier than last years. The A+ mark last year was 118/150 which is 59/75. Im gonna predict around 61-62/75?
for the record. I got 64.5/75 and 69/75 for the 2 exams for my 45.
I think it was SACs that scaled me down a bit because they were honestly bad :P
-
do they give half marks?
-
Two assessors mark your exam so e.g. if one give you 2/3 and the other gives you 3/3 then you receive 5/6 = "half mark."
-
I think 70 is the maximum I'll get... less if the VCAA assessors aren't feeling very nice... overall, not too bad... though I think I should've checked my SA more carefully... ah well, time for chem tomorrow!! :)
-
Fingers crossed for mid A+ if im lucky, an A at least hopefully :(
-
Am I the only one that thought last years was easier?
-
Am I the only one that thought last years was easier?
Nah i thought last years was easier too.. might be cos i never did it under proper exam conditions like today.
Didn't think this years was too hard though, just quite different compared to the rest of the papers from this study design.
Oh well what can you do, can't change anything now, aside from focusing on unit 4 and waiting till August for results lol
-
u dont get your paper back in august yea?
do they teachers just tell you if it was an A/A+/B+/B or do you get an official paper thing with a grade on it
-
nah u dont get the paper back, pretty sure its in a letter with and official paper which states your letter grade
-
I don't see why we can't get our paper back? what do VCAA even do with it?
-
I don't see why we can't get our paper back? what do VCAA even do with it?
Make money out of it with their statement of marks :S
-
I don't see why we can't get our paper back? what do VCAA even do with it?
you can apply to inspect it, costs a bit though
-
Yeah I know but I don't know why we can't get them back permanently.
-
Yeah I know but I don't know why we can't get them back permanently.
VCAA probably needs to make a profit -.-.
-
They like to make money off making you cry =l
-
I don't see why we can't get our paper back? what do VCAA even do with it?
Destroy them.
If you inspect your exam, you are allowed to take in blank paper and copy out whatever you want by hand.
No phones/cameras are allowed though.

WOW! Really? I actually never knew that :O
So you actually have to go to a place and inspect your paper?
I hope they recycle all the paper because that's A LOT of trees they would be killing.
This is why exams are terrible. Deforestation.
ABOLISH ALL EXAMS!
And don't even suggest electronic exams, the amount of energy used would be ridiculous
with so many people using it all at once- adding on to what we use already :P
On topic though.. I really really really hope a 62/72 would be an A+ because I stuffed up MC so badly. Highly unlikely though.. Probs like 65/72 for A+
-
You can inspect it at your school, I suspect it's to prevent an obvious "i wrote this and got X marks" being compared across responses
