These are mine :P
2: B
3: C
4: B (Guessed this one :()
Question 4 is D.
Cause [99(100)]/2 = 4950 and [100(101)]/2=5050 so the difference is 100.

haha at least this is your last one forever ^.^

13. X + 70 = 71 + 25 + 51 + 45, X = 122
14. 16 + 20 = 6 + Y + 10 + 14, Y = 6
Anyway...I'm probably going to win more opponents than supporters here but I reckon the GAT is a pretty legit aptitude test, perhaps even better than the VCE itself.
-
For 55. I think it's C(770) because:
30% of 770 = 231.
231 + 770 = 1001. (Remember it's an estimate)
So yeah, 55 - C
That's right.

55. D 1000*0.30=$700

Aren't we just removing the 30% tax rate?
-
You have to remember that it's including tax
zz. I hope I'm right.. otherwise imma look like a nubcake.

Your right.... I am the nubcake.
I was thinking to logically, by simply removing the tax.

The one question that I just did not understand was the GST/WST last question
Too noob :(

Better not look at my facebook then brightsky :P
Although, I had to stay for the whole 3 hours, so it's understandable :P
-
I'm a bit confused about question 31. How the hell does it work with the options provided? It doesn't does it?
-
im fairly sure question 31 is D
edit:
W is 10 because when J=30 and E=30, Y=J+E=50
and following the flowchart with no drivethrough, W =y/5 = 10
Z is 15 because Z=J/2=30/2=15
hope thats not too confusing :D
-
how do you work out questions 49-51? :S
-
I thought Z was 25. Because J+E=Y and Y=50, Z=Y/2 therefore Z=25?
-
No no Z=J/2 not Y/2! :O
-
Oh. Pretty sure I put down D but I thought the whole question was wrong.

Just a few queries to the answers suggested here. If you can tell me how you got your answer, that'd be awesome and I can see where I stuffed up (or vice-versa, if it so happens) :)
5. B, his standards are better than his character (general answer is "A: no club has low enough standards for him")
6. C, Tolkien's experience in the army led to a disenchantment with reality (general answer is "A: let to a fascination with writing", though it then said he created stories "based upon his studies of mythology and folklore" so I thought he might be into writing already)
9. D, his novels have shaped the way in which people view fantasy stories (general answer is "C: he wrote fiction which appealed to both adults and children")
17. B 60 years because the marker "World", a rectangle, in Figure 1 showed a life expectancy of approximately 61 years (general answer "C: 64 years")
22. C more difficult to apply and more effective at reducing pain. (general answer is "D: more effective at reducing pain but less effective in reducing swelling" however, since Herbal extract 2 reduces swelling and the new recipe contains herbal extract 2 and recipe IV does not, it should be MORE effective in reducing swelling)
33. A 3J=2E as Y/5 = J/2 --> (J+E)/5 - J/2 = 0 --> 2J + 2E - 5J = 0 --> 2E - 3J = 0 --> 2E = 3J (general answer is "B: 3E=2J")
45. D oil as the medium is necessary to produce a green oil alteration. Query: the arrows from (1) point to both of the boxes in (2), so regardless of whether or not the copper plate was scratched, it can still have any of the patinas on it... (general answer "A: a scratched copper plate" which would be correct if the arrow thing was just me...)
53. D above 30 degrees it is possible for development to occur without growth, as from 36 to 38 degrees, development DOES occur without growth (general answer "B: development cannot occur without growth")
65. B flapper valve IV only (general answer "C: both III and IV")
Cheers,
Sam :)

I picked Eerie as well! Was kinda confusing, really up to your own perception.

53. D above 30 degrees it is possible for development to occur without growth, as from 36 to 38 degrees, development DOES occur without growth (general answer "B: development cannot occur without growth")
I agree with this. The others I'm not too sure about. 53 is definitely D guys. And 6 I also believe is C since the text says "...view fantasy as a way to escape the harsh actuality of war, machines, guns and bombs".

I have agreed with everything that you have said, however with this one, the "general answer" is still correct, can you please expand more on what you have said?
Because the "development cannot occur without growth" is still a correct answer in my eyes.
-
To the guy who was choosing chemicals, next time just go to the Chemist mate.
Cheers.

If you look at the brackets for Growth and Development, Growth can occur from 18-36 degrees while Development can occur from 20-38 degrees. From 36-38 degrees, Development can occur while Growth cannot occur (as it is outside the growth temperature limit bracket). So, development can occur with (20-36 degrees) or without (36-38 degrees) growth, and vice versa, as growth can occur without development from 18-20 degrees.
Hope that clears it up, it's a bit hard to put into words :)

(and in case you were wondering why I'm asking about english/artsy questions and it says I finished year 12 last year and did artsy subjects - I'm using a friend's account.
2010: Methods CAS 43; Psychology 37
2011: English (40+), Chemistry (45+), Physics (45+), Specialist Mathematics (45+), Music Performance (35+)
ATAR: 99.9 :S (everyone needs something to aim towards, I only need about 80 though)
-
I see it now, and agree with you. However, (and this is just for my personal knowledge) How is "B" not an answer? It still fits the criteria.
:)
Thanks

Anyone want to have an attempt at the Haiku poems and the quotes on culture?
-
Oh god, the haiku poems.
WTF.
-
The haiku weren't even haiku (I guess they were in Japanese before they were translated..... but STILL!!)
53 B is not referring to any specific temperature. As there is an instance where development occurs without growth (the opposite to the statement) between 36-38 degrees, it cannot be correct. Do you have a copy of the exam? the brackets do not fully overlap.

I know for sure the last culture question was the one based around kitchen appliances, culture is defined by appliances, look in the dictionary.
