Title: 5th SAC
Post by: Truck on June 23, 2011, 10:49:19 pm
So we haven't been told much about this one, but what I do know is that we're going to GTAC at Uni High... on monday! Anyone actually know what this SAC is even about haha.

wouldn't expect we'd need to do the right up until after holidays, as Cadets and such are going on the trip after the holidays

Given that GTAC is a genetics lab, probably something to do with alleles and recombination or genetic crosses with flies.

I did it, its pretty boring actually. We did something on restriction enzymes, plasmids and then gel electrophoresis.

Just putting it out there but we did the most awesome prac in unit 4.
Transfected bacteria with glow-in-the-dark jellyfish gene (+antibiotic resistance gene) and made our very own, home-grown glow in the dark bacteria :)

When we went to GTAC we just looked at flies under a microscope and tried to determine their alleles and i think we answered some questions/ solved some problems with the data we got on the fly alleles. We also did what Rohitpi said he did:
...restriction enzymes, plasmids and then gel electrophoresis...

Thats about all i can remember. It wasn't mind blowingly awesome really but i guess its good to get out of the school for a change right guys?

We are going too, also got a SAC based off it. Apparently we are doing what scocliffe did - transferring glow in the dark DNA sounds awesome!

Haha you say that now
Trust me, it really isn't as awesome as it sounds
Complete waste of a day in my opinion
