Sorry to bring this thread back on topic...but results are definitely starting to trickle through.
First year biomedders, check your study plans. :)
-
Split the thread.
Yeah, so annoying that first years get their marks back before us :(

Haha, yeah. It is probably because 80% of our assessment is marked by a computer. :p
-
So much for results starting to be released on the 1st :P
None of my results are up yet :(
-
Let the refreshing begin! Did the subjects that were released disappear off the "Course and Subjects" section on the front page of the Portal?

Yeah.

How'd you go? :P

How'd you go? :P
Only bio is out so far. Extremely happy. :)
BIOL10002 - Biomolecules and Cells-FD , Passed , 2011 , Semester 1 , Parkville , On Campus , Semester 1 Mark: 92 Grade: First Class Honours (H1)

Woah nice!

I got 90. :D
-
BIOL10004 - Biology of Cells and Organisms-FD , Passed , 2011 , Semester 1 , Parkville , On Campus , Semester 1 Mark: 95 Grade: First Class Honours (H1)
THANK GOD. I really needed that...
-
Good job everyone so far, amazing results. Still no results for Commerce, the wait continues.
-
Haha thanks for prompting me to check stonecold, I was going about my business without any portal (aside from timetabling) because they had said to wait for the 1st.

They are such liars. :p
Awesome mark btw!

Awesome mark btw!
Thanks! :) You too! Biology is da best.
95 is the highest mark I have ever gotten haha, I don't think I will be able to get past 95...I got it for CMEDL last year but that was because I wrote a thesis for a blog (it was 30 000 words). But it's probably not 'as hard' to get higher results in Science as it is in Arts (because of scaling differences and subjective marking), so we shall see. That said, there is no possible way I am expecting anything above 80 for Chemistry or Physics. Good luck for the rest of your results :D
Edit: but referring to their tomfoolery, I think it's because they can't control what leaks onto the study planner when they have to keep updating it constantly during the period in which people are frequently enrolling into classes. So once a faculty says a person has passed it's inevitably going to pop up on the study planner when they refresh them all for enrollment purposes.
-
For anyone interested i emailed that 13Melb thing asking when exactly results are supposed to be out, since there is like 3 different "versions" out there. So here is another version:
You can expect to gain access to the majority of your results by the 1st of July, via your student portal.
There are rare cases where a student's results are not available by that time and where this is the case the final result release deadline is close of business on the 8th of July.

More evidence that UoM is inferior to Monash when it comes to exam results.
Hoping micro and immuno come out this week...i mean it's been 3 weeks since the exam and my breadth has had nearly a month
-
Russ; from what I've seen, departments like to have the results for all their subjects before they are entered into the system. At least that's the impression I have gotten from release times in the past.
-
Yeah I'm just anxious to get them lol. But Monash apparently has a new 1 week turnaround policy for essay marking, which is just insanely efficient

results come out at monash on the 11th.... so i dont see how UoM is inferior if it still comes later...

Monash is organised :(
-
I got all of my results yesterday and I had my last exam on Friday. :)
-
The Melbourne School of Engineering is sure definitely taking time with releasing their results :(

I think they also have to have a meeting or something before results are released. But yeah, I really hope it comes out soon.
-
Yeh, I have no idea where this "results will start coming out on 1 July" thing is coming from - it just seems like they're doing what they did last semester, which is to release results as they finalise them, with all results to be finalised by some pre-determined date. I got some results back last year before the exam period even finished!

Monash results are ready, but they (unfortunately) don't release them to the students until the prescribed date :(
Congrats to everyone so far!

Yeah, it truly is the best. Every time I think I am screwed, and it just keeps coming back with good results!
And I saw all your arts results in older threads, and you are just pro at everything. Mostly like 90+ :)
I am terrified to get my Arts(Breadth) result back. Exam was awful.
And I hope your Physics/Chem results surprise you. I wouldn't worry too much either. A fair amount of students from the biomed chem cohort are probably gonna fail.
And your logic makes sense. :p
All I know is it means I am refreshing the stupid portal like 100 times a day because I need to know what I got, because I might have to study again for 'special assessment'.
Did you get any special consideration for physics cause your were sick?

Hahaha oh god now you're just making me more afraid! I'm going to be one of them failing Chem 1...
What was your Arts breadth? Haha I am definitely not pro at everything! I'm good at Biology but not so fantastic when it comes to more mathematical things like Physics. And I love Chemistry but I'm not really that great at it...
Haha, I think that if you check at like 9am, 12pm and 4pm those seem to be the times I am most likely to get a result...from previous experience. But others might think differently.
And I didn't get any special consideration! Physics wasn't too bad (the exam) so I thought I would rather take my chances than apply...even if I get like a H2B I wouldn't want to take the supps. I'm sure your results will be fantastic enough so that you don't have to though! Haha.
-
Biology of cells and organisms has dropped off the LMS but the results aren't out yet (at least for me) :/
-
Still no results here. Having said that, I'm still waiting for my poster mark for quantum to be released and my assignment 2 marks to be released for algebra and quantum.
I got all of my results yesterday and I had my last exam on Friday. :)
Are you in masters now? That could be why you have your results now.

Nahh, you will be fine. You actually try. I am talking about the people who sit there and bitch all day about how bad chem is, when they never do any work. They don't even bother to learn the most basic concepts. It was bound to happen when you let so many SEAS applicants in I guess.
I did 'The Secret Life of Language' for breadth. The assignments were easy, and I pretty much got the full 50% for them, but I am pretty concerned about the exam. It was kinda tricky, and apparently it is marked on a bell curve. :S
Okay, I'll try to look at those times because I really have other more important stuff to get on with haha.
And yeah, fair enough. I really don't want to do 'special assessment' either. I have had it approved for Bio and Calc. Chem still says unassessed. I obviously don't want it for Bio. Do you know if I have to do anything?
And I am just praying to scrape H1s. :p
My preparation/study this semester has been woeful...
Biology of cells and organisms has dropped off the LMS but the results aren't out yet (at least for me) :/
Your result will be in your study plan. :)

@Mavis, I had a result come out at 8pm last year...that was fun

I am. Was looking in the "View My Recent Results" page from the admin tab.
It seems the LMS page is back now, and my result is here!!! :D
H1 81 - pretty good considering I did poorly on the pracs and even missed one AND i didnt do VCE biol :D

Oh I wanted to take that subject last year but didn't have enough room. You will be fine! It is marked to a bell curve though, you are correct!

How do you apply for special consideration stonecold?
-
within 2 days of an exam, submit an HCAP form
Principles of Immunology is out (@username mostly) scraped an H1 which is something I'm damn pleased with after the MST2 travesty
-
91 For Biomed Bio. Pretty stoked. Hopefully I get similar results for my other subjects..
-
How do you apply for special consideration stonecold?
Wouldn't there be different protocols at Monash?
-
So you'd apply anyway and if you get it approved its a bonus type thing?
-
Melbourne doesn't allow adjustment of marks to compensate for circumstances, you have to sit a supplementary exam
-
Melbourne doesn't allow adjustment of marks to compensate for circumstances, you have to sit a supplementary exam
This is what mine is saying now.
BIOL10002 Biomolecules and Cells - Exam 8/06/2011 Special assessment
CHEM10006 Chemistry for Biomedicine - Exam 6/06/2011 Special assessment
MAST10005 Calculus 1 - Exam 7/06/2011 Special assessment
What exactly is 'Special Assessment'? I don't want it for Bio, and if I do well in my other subjects, hopefully won't need it.
All I could find was this:

He truly is a freak, he thinks he doesn't do well but he does extremely well.
He's like gohan when he thought goku was holding back against cell but really it's just because he was so strong that his expectations were higher... ;D
Grats dude, great marks :)
-
Wow. Nice marks Stonecold.
88 for Biomed Chem here.
Two H1s so far. Hopefully two more to come :)

Congrats to you too!
I really have to work out who you are, because you are like the only first year biomedder on here that I don't know. :p
-
I still haven't gotten any results yet :(
I'd be pretty surprised if they all came out tomorrow...
-
My guess is most of them will be out at 10pm tonight :)

GODDAMNIT the portal is under maintenance!
I'm sure you're just being modest with 'scraped' though. ^_^ Good job. I'm sitting here pressing F5 every 5 seconds.
-
I still haven't got any results yet awww... My last exam was in late May and still haven't received results for that :-\ The Physio department is so slow
-
There's been a change; results are now out on 8th July. Check Info tab; results

Can someoen tell me where to check?
-
Portal>Admin>View or amend my study plan
-
^ On your study plan under the admin link of the portal.
Edit: Beaten to it! :-[
-
Will it say where the subject is?
-
Will it say where the subject is?
On the side of the portal, it lists all the subjects you are/were enrolled in. Once a subject disappears from this section, then your result will be next to where the subject is listed in your study plan.
-
Pretty much as above, and in the study plan;
ANAT20006 - Principles of Human Structure , Enrolled , 2011 , Semester 1 , Parkville , On Campus , Semester 1
would (hopefully) be replaced by
ANAT20006 - Principles of Human Structure , Passed , 2011 , Semester 1 , Parkville , On Campus , Semester 1 mark: ??
-

You guys are lucky to be gettin results progressively, Monash don't get theres for another week and a half! :(
-
Ah alright. Yeah i've got nothing yet
-
wait, so you go to your study plan, like where it has all your subject's you've planned and everything and it will say there? i'm not getting anything.....
-
are the exam same marks shown in portal>admin>view my recent results (under the results section)?
-

Yeah, it will look like this:
I don't think commerce has released any results yet though...
-

Just go to the front page of the Student Portal, it should have a list of your subjects for Semester 1 and 2 on the left hand side under "Course and Subjects"
Once subject disappears from that list, check your Study Plan by clicking "View entire study plan". The subject that disappeared on the front page, should be greyed out with your mark.
AFAIK, no commerce subjects are released.
-
Just managed to get H1 (very low 80) for both Biology Cells and organisms and Chemsitry 1
-
My friend who did a Commerce breadth (Marketing subject) just got his mark for it, so it seems that Commerce subjects are coming out now.
-
Chem 1- 73. I can live with that considering I studied a whole day for it :\
-
I got my result for complex analysis and I'm heart broken. I only managed a 59 and this subject is a core.
I'm considering repeating the subject. I can't repeat a passed subject. FML!
-
FNCE10001 - Finance 1 , Passed , 2011 , Semester 1 , Parkville , On Campus , Semester 1 Mark: 83 Grade: First Class Honours (H1)
still got it!
-
ACCT30004 - Auditing and Assurance Services , Passed , 2011 , Semester 1 , Parkville , On Campus , Semester 1 Mark: 79 Grade: Second Class Hons A (H2A)
ACCT30001 - Financial Accounting , Passed , 2011 , Semester 1 , Parkville , On Campus , Semester 1 Mark: 79 Grade: Second Class Hons A (H2A)
Gay x2 :(

Lol, me neither. Hopefully my other results aren't so close but still a bit short of a grade
-
ANAT20006 - Principles of Human Structure , Passed , 2011 , Semester 1 , Parkville , On Campus , Semester 1 Mark: 85 Grade: First Class Honours (H1)
FNCE20001 - Business Finance , Passed , 2011 , Semester 1 , Parkville , On Campus , Semester 1 Mark: 81 Grade: First Class Honours (H1)
Yay! My girlfriend got 96 in the same anatomy subject, absolute freak lol.

Will we be mailed our results as well or will it just be available online? Also, is there any way to know our exam mark?
-
Will we be mailed our results as well or will it just be available online? Also, is there any way to know our exam mark?
From memory they are just available online, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. The only way you can know your exam mark is if you work it out based on your other scores (that I assume you know), or you can email your subject coordinator who might tell you.
-
No you never get mailed your results. And I think you can ask to examine your script or something but other than that I don't think you can fi d out your exam mark. Usually you can get an idea by using your within semester marks though
-
Just managed to get H1 (very low 80) for both Biology Cells and organisms and Chemsitry 1
me too for both mid 80s, but chem fundamentals
-
The only time you'll be mailed your results is when you graduate from the course - they send you a full official transcript for free (it usually costs to print otherwise).
-
FNCE20001 - Business Finance , Failed , 2011 , Semester 1 , Parkville , On Campus , Semester 1 Mark: 49 Grade: Fail (N)
Ladies and gentlemen, learn from my mistake. If the mid semester is worth 25%, don't screw it up. Just a little heads up. :)
-
Ouch, 49!
I guess it goes both ways.
Bus Fi Mid-sem if you study for it = easy way to get 25% since its all MC and there's only like 12-15 Qs.
-
MAST10008 - Accelerated Mathematics 1 , Passed , 2011 , Semester 1 , Parkville , On Campus , Semester 1 Mark: 86 Grade: First Class Honours (H1)
pretty sure i screwed up the exam badly though >.>

59 for algebra too! I've done so bad that I don't know whether to laugh or cry! I probably won't get into masters and I'm in shock.

on a sad note: Accelerated Mathematics 1 , Failed , 2011 , Semester 1 , Parkville , On Campus , Semester 1 Mark: 34 Grade: Fail (N)
EDIT: i hav a feeling i got 45-50 and they maybe moved it up to 50 just to be nice? is this possible?

The faculty might have decided to give you a 50 if your actual result was 49 and you'd attended all tutes etc. (ie at their discretion they can not fail students)

Quite a bit I guess. I put a lot of effort into the assignments, and read the book in the holidays. I used the book they said was more advanced, rather than the one recommended for everyone. This year was fairly easy though. I actually put much more effort into Econometrics, was on 34.8/35 going into the exam and got destroyed.

Is it just me or is 79 more common than other grades? Is there some sort of special distinction between a 79 and an 80 because it separates the H2A's from the H1's?

dont worry the 74s will even out

Probably important for all the people getting marks for the first time: if you get a 79 (or 74 etc.) you might not have gotten that mark exactly. You might have actually ended up with a 77 and the department has scaled you to a 79 because it makes no difference to your grade, but makes students feel better.

haha, gold. Yeah, I got H1s in all of them as well (obviously not techniques). Also, somehow managed to get an H1 for my breadth...looks like Global Health was a good choice after all! Looking forward to next semester a lot now :)

Reckon you have a shot at the Micro prize? $100 and a certificate! Was shocked to hear that the grade last year was so high (96 or something).
-
There is literally no way I will get the prize! I keep telling you I'm not that hard working, I rely on coasting!
I have a mate who I reckon might have a shot though, I have to check with him about how he went.

Totally agreed. 79 makes you regret more a little mistake here and there during the semester.
-

Yeah but when has the university actually been in touch with what students feel.
Last year I got 79 for a subject and when I asked about my exam mark I was told I actually got a 78 and
You also received a further global rounding benefit of 1 mark to give your final grade of 79 H2A
-
74 for quantum physics! So happy all that's left is electrodynamics... My most feared subject. :S

89% average is more than my Arts averages (86) which is slightly comforting because it means I didn't totally fail at life when I switched courses, but still slightly disconcerting because if I had just managed a little higher in Chemistry then I could have had a 90 average and I like things that start with 9.

EPM - H2A, probably going to check this exam paper. Unless intense downward moderation occurred, I have no idea how this happened.

Currently in America with Uni ('Searching for the American Dream'). I'm not sure I'll be re-enrolling for semester 2. I'm disappointed with how uni has gone for me, especially after VCE, but I just don't think I'm cut out for it.

Congrats on Investments, got any advice? I've got it in second semester.
-
lol it's probably easier than derivs (Doing that this upcoming semester!) and isn't too bad. I found the exam for Investments to be alright surprisingly, guess its just like any other finance sub where you just have to get your head around the concepts and you should be fine. Subject is quite managable and isn't anything out of the ordinary in terms of difficulty.

Thanks. I am most happy with my Calculus mark. After what happened with methods last year, my confidence in maths was destroyed. Half way through the Calc exam I was screwed and couldn't answer like 1/4 of it, but somehow I managed to pull everything together and finish the paper and do well which was good.

Or do you have to wait for your student centre to contact you (it was a compulsory subject, fml)

Was it a core subject? If it is, it might involve more than just a simple re-enrolment.

Yeah the unsatisfactory progress thing is scary. I think that's why you can't repeat a subject you pass because they kind of want you in and out as quickly as possible.

I was hoping I could finalise my timetable so its not all over the place, thanks.
Was it a core subject? If it is, it might involve more than just a simple re-enrolment.
Yeah, it was
I don't want to scare you but there might be a problem with regards to Unsatisfactory Progress.

Yeah the unsatisfactory progress thing is scary. I think that's why you can't repeat a subject you pass because they kind of want you in and out as quickly as possible.
It's even more scary when you've:
1. Already failed a subject.
2. Passed two.
3. Waiting for the last one.
4. You think you failed the one you're waiting on.
Not looking in the mirror or anything..... Oh god it's killing me.

All you do at an unsatisfactory progress meeting is promise to study harder. They pretty much just stick a councillor in a room and say 'are you sure university is the right place for you?' Join the union, too: you can get representation.

Quantum, if you dont mind me asking what exactly is mathematical physics degree ie what does it lead to??. What masters course could you do after that?. Also workload?
At the undergrad level it is just a mix of maths and theoretical physics subjects - no labs. It will have the same workload as a major in maths or a major in physics.
It can lead to an MSc in physics, or depending on your subject selection, also in pure or applied maths.

I knew the $89* spent last year during Members' Week was well spent.
*$90 if you include the yearly subscription to The Age.

It was $89 during Members' Week last year, if you were already a current member in 2010. ;D
