Title: Redundancy and Retrenchment
Post by: jsimmo on August 05, 2008, 09:18:51 pm
Are they the same or different? [how are they different?]

I have heard that they are the same but I have also heard that they are closely related but are actually different..

"When an employee is retrenched (there is no longer a position available for them within the organisation) they are referred to as redundant"

Could someone expand on the above statement? Thank you.

They are essentially the same, its just the way you use the term. An employee is retrenched while a position at an organisation is made redundant.
