Title: Determining exam marks required for certain grade?
Post by: joshuamorgan on November 14, 2007, 01:42:02 pm
Is it possible to determine how many marks on the exam you need to get a certain grade for it? Obviously it varies every year based on student's performance but does the VCAA release reports for previous years? I'm not talking about grade assignment (I've found that) but rather a report that says '55/60 on exam for <subject> would yield an A for exam' kind-of-thing.

Thanks!

Such a thing exists :)

For different years just change the 2006 bit. Don't ask me how to get to it from vcaa's front page, I've only managed that once myself.
And this year's mid year exams are here: http://vcaa.vic.edu.au/vce/statistics/2007/midyear.html

Hmm, yeh, that's what I found - grade distributions...

I understand where I went wrong now, I didn't see the 'Score Ranges' field. However, for Business Management [http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vce/statistics/2006/gradeassess/vce_bus_mgmt_ga06.pdf], Graded Assessment 3 [Written Examination] - the exam itself is out of 60, but the score range for A+ on the Grade Distributions report states 97-120? Is that because it is marked twice?

Who cares? You can't do anything about it regardless. Just wait until the 17th.

All subjects are marked twice EXCEPT systematic subjects.

These are most of the mid-year ones except Psych & Bio. I think there are more, but I don't do em so I don't care.

Systematic exams being your maths/sciences, where there is generally 1 or 2 accepted answers.

LOL, we need a euphemism for bludge subjects.

How about 'complexity-challenged subjects'? :P
