i'm not sure whether we need to know this, but if you do know...
is it E oxidant - E reductant
or E reductant - E oxidant

The second one. It's supposed to be the reduction potential (
) of the cathode minus the anode's, which would imply the first one, but if you're talking about the "voltage required for an electrolytic reaction," then it's the second one.
It doesn't make a difference though. The first one is just the negative version of the second one. If you get a negative number, just ignore it.
