How do you write electron configurations?

1s22s22p6 etc

or

Spot the difference .....

We were taught to do:
(shell number)(subshell type)(*superscript* no. of electrons in the subshell)
So something like:
   2    2    2
1s  2s   3s et cetera
Hope that shows up ok

VCAA seem to have it the other way in their answers.

Ah well .... it would have to be a ridiculously simple exam for them to consider taking marks away for this :P

I would do the first way, you can't be marked wrong that way.

However, the numbers should be in superscript, not subscript.

Lol yeah I know, but I don't know how to make them superscript  I fail at technology-related things.
