Title: Double degree
Post by: fredrick on September 07, 2008, 03:30:54 pm
im thinking of doing a double degree at monash, as of now im deciding between this courses:

Bachelor of aerospace/Bachelor of Arts  :idiot2:
Bachelor of aerospace/Bachelor of science  ;D
Bachelor of commerce/Bachelor of aerospace  ;D ;D
Bachelor of mechatronics/Bachelor of commerce  :-\

Are the job prospects of Aerospace any good in Australia? Would i be able to find a job?\\cheers

You have asked this before :P

In any case, talk to enwiabe as he is the resident aerospace enthusiast here (he is currently doing aerospace/science)

Talked to a professional career consultant the other day, and he said basically theres nothing here in Aust. for aerospace...

You end up working for holden etc.

Ofcourse I might be wrong :P

That career consultant is whackjob. Australia has a rich and growing industry of aerostructures engineers that work on the design of airframes and wings etc. There are literally THOUSANDS of jobs in the aero industry and not enough aussie graduates to fill them, so most of the firms I'VE talked to (four in total) actually hire from overseas.

There's PLENTY of work, and don't let people tell you otherwise :)

Wow I am stoked with the job opportunities in the Aerospace industry in Australia.
I was considering this factor when I was thinking if I should aspire for Aerospace Engineering...  ;D

I think the main point was he wanted our opinion on the double degrees.

Fredrick, can u translate ur emoticons in2 words?
Give us ur thoughts/impressions of each degree, and we can confirm or deny any rumours u've heard.

i was checking the monash website and i came across the engineering/commerce double degree. i'm wondering whether this course is actually accredited by Engineers Australia?

doing a double degree gets you the same accredidation as you would doing a single degree AS LONG AS BY TAKING ON THAT DOUBLE DEGREE YOU CAN STILL UNDERTAKE ALL UNITS THAT WOULD ALLOW YOU TO BE ACCREDITED. i hope that makes sense

There will be a certain unit set that you will need to complete to be accredited by EA - the Faculty will generally enforce this to be the case and cut your electives out for the shorter degree length.

Cbf starting new thread, so....

Is bachelor of commerce/bachelor of aerospace engineering a common combination? Where exactly could it take you?

It's not highly common, since aero is quite a narrow field. A commerce/eng double usually lead to management/project supervision positions in engineering firms.

Lol where?

I thought all the aero careers were in the good ole United States of America or Europe. But I guess you could do maintaince in Aust and become head. :)

Correct, hence aero is not a very common degree, and that's why Aerospace at Monash accredits the student professional qualification in Aerospace as well as Mechanical Engineering

I see. Well, I don't want to exactly spend an extra year at uni finishing a double and it being a waste, so yeah by where I meant what type of jobs are available? I take it by having Bcom/BAreospace degree's, you take on more the business aspect of engineering? Anyone know what fields of work are available in Aus for aerospace?
