I was wondering if a country like the United States recognises the bComm?
What would be the likelihood of getting employed over there with a commerce degree?
-
Well I know UoM has many connections with Unis in the US (and other countries) such as the Stern School for Business at NYU.
Thus, I'm pretty sure it's a worldwide accepted degree. :)

In general, it's a whole lot more likely than an arts degree:

*waits in anticipation for another epic arts criticism thread*

They don't have BCom in the US actually. I think they either call it the Bachelor of Business or Bachelor of Business Administration.

In the US the business subjects typically come under the BS or BA.
At Wharton School of Business at The University of Pennsylvania (The top undegrad business school), ALL undergraduate business students receive a "Bachelor of Science in Economics" and can choose a variety of concentrations: http://undergrad.wharton.upenn.edu/concentrations/concentrations.cfm

Why'd you automatically assume that he was talking exclusively about UoM? :P

i don't think that assumption was implied

I think it was...

Or, summarised:
Because UoM has connections overseas, the BCom is a worldwide accepted degree.
(this is in connexion with the established fact that AppleXY is a fanboy of the said university)
My point is, other degrees are just as accepted as UoM's. Yes, education will be an aspect when applying for a position here or abroad...but I'm am fairly certain that your performance during their selection process would mean just as much.
I know I wouldn't hire a UoM grad, if I was recruiting for a US firm, where the graduate could not communicate at all.
Another thing to consider is that the worth of your degree in getting you a job decreases as work experience increases.

Prav's inclinations notwithstanding, he was providing evidence in his reply to the general question in the first post. His message wasn't foremost about aggrandizing UoM.
-
Perhaps, but his subconscious certainly had a part to play.
In response, MONASH MONASH MONASH.

I agree with this.
-
LOL. Yeah, as bubble said, I was providing some evidence to show that the BCom is a globally accepted degree. That's all, no fanboyism :P
And oh btw, even if your degree isn't accepted worldwide, and your discipline lies in either Actuarial Studies, Accounting or Finance you could get accreditation (FIAA, FCA, CFA respectively) which solves the problem. ;)
lol excal's attempt at attacking me rofl.
-
Hah...wasn't even trying :P
I was merely pointing out that it was so expected of you to say 'YAY UoM!', rather than talk about all universities in general (which is the way I read the question, anyway) :D
