Depends on which uni you apply to........?
But generally, yes.

For most physio courses they require the UMAT.
I think La Trobe is the exception.
But you do for Monash.

Yes. It does depend on the university you wish to attend, as some have it as an admission requirement for physio and others don't.
I strongly suggest you do it though.

An information booklet on the UMAT and info on which universities require it for admission can be found here:

Hey....im tryin 2 get into physio aswell and yes, for monash and melb they do ask for UMAT, but not at La Trobe. Last yr the avg UMAT percentile  at monash (out of 300) was about 200. At melb they only look at raw scores and double ur sec 1 result and add sec 2 and 3, this yr they r askin fro a min sore of 173....hope that helps...

I think i have to do some more reading to get a clear understanding of the requirements of these particular universities

Basically if some of the courses you are interested in at the moment require the UMAT, you should sit it, because it would suck if you found a course you really liked near the end of year 12 and were ineligible for it because of no umat.
Ie, better to be safe if you have some interest, than sorry

I would imagine that by the time this information is relevant, Melbourne would no longer be offering physio at the undergrad model (in line with its Melbourne Model).

Might be sounding a bit dumb here, but what exactly is the UMAT? I'm curious because I also want to do physiotherapy lol, but not too sure about what the UMAT entails. When do I do it? And is it a test or what? I'm clueless lol.

The Undergraduate Medicine and Health Sciences Admission Test (UMAT) is a test administered by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) in Australia and New Zealand to assist in the selection of students into certain health science courses including most medical (MBBS or MBChB) and Dentistry (BDSc or BDS) courses. The UMAT is used for selection into undergraduate courses only; applicants for graduate courses must sit the GAMSAT. Each year, the UMAT is held on a single day, typically during either late July or early August.

The 2005 UMAT consisted of three sections:

Logical reasoning and problem solving (44 questions to be completed in 65 minutes)
Understanding people (36 questions to be completed in 45 minutes)
Non-verbal reasoning (30 questions to be completed in 40 minutes)
A candidate's UMAT score consist of three numbers, one for each section of the test, as well as a percentile ranking (out of 100) for each section. These UMAT scores are valid for 2 years.

The nature of the UMAT is quite different from typical school examinations; academic brilliance does not necessarily equate to an outstanding UMAT result

UMAT stands for Ultra Masculine Admon Thyroids, basically whoever can be as big as me wins (and imo that's a big task, which is why only 100 out of 2000 people get in). You need persistence, stamina, endurance and most importantly class to even be considered. I suggest you hit the gym now or else physio is out of your visio.

No but really it stands for "undergraduate medicine admissions test" and basically is a general knowledge, like an IQ test thingy, that you need to take for some(health) courses. You need to gain aboce a certain percentile to be considered for an interview at some unis. They use this so that people not fit for medicine or health are weeded out and due to the fact that this helps ease the amount of people that can be considered for undergradutate medicine, as i'd assume the demand for such courses would be extremely high. Anywhu, there are also company's such as medentry which help prepare you for the UMAT. goodluck and farewell for i am CAPTAIN PLANET.

If you intending to enter Physiotherapy in Victoria in 2010, you should sit the UMAT. Whilst not all universities require it, Monash does. The website is http://umatweb.acer.edu.au/

Ahh thanks kurrymuncher and glockmeister. Honourable mentions go to hard for rhyming physio with visio. And I found out how to read your size 2 font, which was actually helpful lol.

Cheers guys.
