Title: Transition from HS to UNI
Post by: dusty_girl1144 on October 03, 2008, 09:58:56 pm
hummm

lately ive been thinking heaps.
what life will be like after HS...

this whole week i went to lectures with little tute classes involved.
and i made so many new friends. made me relise how unhappy i was with old ones.....

so having said that.
what are your guys thoughts in uni life.
eg... did u keep in contact with close friends? still call them best friends?
which one has been the best? as in HS or uni?

time is gettin closer and closer for us yr 12's :P

I suspected that I would lose contact with everyone soon after HS finished.
This exact thing happened.

I thought that this would be a bad thing in some way.
I was wrong on that count, without meaningless 'friendships' you are really no worse off out of them.

Since then I have made my closest friends on this site. They are the first people I truly trust and feel comfortable with etc.
I know people at uni, but they're just a slight improvement on the quality of HS friendships. I have seen some of them outside of uni twice :D

I expect to lose contact with quite a lot of the people I currently call friends at high school atm.
Of course, there will also be a few that I will make sure I keep in contact with :)

And as for the transition from HS to Uni...
I CAN'T WAIT~!! :D hehee
It just seems so exciting to me :P lolz.
No more year 12 stress, less hours of school, meeting new people, being in the city everyday (hopefully i'll go to uni in the city) , and going to the same uni as my silly boyfriend  :smitten:  (actually, hopefully i'll get into UoM) :P

I still keep contact with a number of friends from high school despite being at uni for nearly two years now. In fact my best mate from high school does a very similar course to me at uni (Chem Eng - Management compare with Chem Eng/Science). However, I find the uni life to be so much better than high school since you have a lot more freedom to do what you want, and you get to meet heaps of like minded people :).

at the end of this year. im thinking of like ditching old friends. well some.

i dont want to end up all unhappy during uni. and with the friends i have this year it seems to be heading that way atm.

so i just wanted to see for people at uni if they still kept in contact.

i LOVED making new friends this week!
made me see my OLD ones in a diff light....

I was just thinking about this a few days ago....

People from my high school never bothered to keep in contact with me...(except maybe one or two...but thats via sms/phone). I never fitted in with the people at my school anyway. Most rejected me -  I felt depressed most of the time at school.

I was very surprised that my "best" friends from high school don't bother to include me in their outings. Maybe I can't call them best friends anymore...

In contrast,
The people i have met at uni are so much better. Im grateful that I have met some cool people there. They are so interesting and open minded and most don't judge me. They accept me for who I am and I can be myself.

Awwwwwww/me hugs squance

Hmm, its a bit like that with me aswell :(
Well, i'm not actually rejected, but because i spend quite a bit of my school time in the school library, i'm sort of not included in my group of friends sometimes.

There have been quite a few outings which i was not invited to, but it depends who organises it...only a certain few people do bother to include me :P lol.

But i don't really mind, i prefer to just study *inserts nerd emoticon* :) haha

* Study : Procrastinate, listen to music, msn, skype, sleep etc :D

thats so cool imho.

uni math is enticing enough, and is probably the only thing keeping me sane this year.

THERE ARE MERELY SIX WEEKS LEFT*, DOESN'T THAT MAKE YOU FEEL EXCITED? IN THREE WEEKS, I GET TO FUCK UP MY WHOLE SCHOOL, THEN SAY GOODBYE TO THAT PIECE OF SHIT PLACE WITH ALL THOSE SONS OF BITCHES, FOREVER!!!

WAIT lol that's right, 13th xD

Got ahead of myself there :P 11th is Spec exam 2.  Which is a cause for celebration unto itself; Specialist is the scariest subject I'm taking.

Scary rating: Specialist > History > English > Chemistry

I still keep in contact with a few friends from school, but some people I knew refuse to go out anywhere or even keep in contact at all. If you make an effort though, most of your high school group will be salvaged, it's just a question of whether its worth making the effort.

Most of my friends are at uni now, but given that I live in really close proimity to them, that shouldn't really be a surprise.

I'm kind of looking forward to uni- just because it's going to be so freaking rad in everyway. Like, no maths, lots of lit and history, teaching, city etc... *yay*

but at the same time i'm going to miss high school so much. I, unlike many poeple here apparently, have amazing friends at school, whom I love and cherish and who keep me going. Sure, there will be a few people who I'll probably never see again, apart from our reunion and other peoples parties etc and I don't mind that. But I am devastated that I wont be seeing my core group of friends every single day. I am devastated that I wont get to see my teachers again. I love my teachers, I love my school. And I'm gonna miss it so freaking much.

But i'm still really looking forward to uni and a fresh start :D

scaryness of exams:
lit coz i care the most about it>english ditto>maths coz its hard for me :S>psych coz its easy>media coz i have a two week break in which to study for it.

everyone's hot in your eyes.

the different types of goodbyes

- "let's catch up sometimes, message me on facebook" - meaning "I'm not really motivated, but if it happens that we're both bored out of our heads and really have nothing better to do, I don't mind your company"
- "I'll see you heaps anyways" - meaning "I plan on sticking around, but really we're going to drift off in different directions, but for now lets hedge that impact because we are such good friends"
- "bye." - meaning "I don't really care about you... so..."
- "take care, best luck for future" - meaning "I'm never going to see you again, if all goes well"
- "WIN I won't have to see you again" - meaning "FUCK YOU"
- "what are you doing after exams? lets go for drinks" - meaning "there's still time to have some high-school casual romance *cough*" (note: only works for two sexes, unless you really wanted to)
- "come to my LAN party the weekend after exams" - meaning "we 1337 fwends 4 lyf bro"

yeh not long yet... me and my friends already got 4-5 holidays planned, so I should stay in contact wit my closest friends.

Although i'm pumped. about enjoying subjects I like. No more Further, Texts, or Media Analysis. The nightlife is apparently great in uni, compared to us going out now, being the youngest in the pub, and not all being 18.

From kindergarten (in Adelaide): 0
From prep: have remained in scarce contact with 1
From grade 3 (a new primary school): good with 1, and have another few on Facebook
From high school: have most on Facebook, only keep up with 1
From MHS (year 9 onwards): have almost all of the year level on Facebook, keep up with the ones I see at university, and a group of ~10 in the summer

In one of my classes I also discovered a girl I knew in my first primary school and we hated each other but now we're friends :P also keep in touch with another person from there

Still keep in touch with year 5/6 school friends, mostly through Facebook though I've run into a couple on the train / at uni

High school friends I'm still in regular contact with about 4, 2 of which I still consider my best friends and vice versa, the other 2 are also lovely people, but the majority of high school friends I only sometimes talk to when I see them around / on MSN / Facebook etc

... it's sad, I thought I'd stay in contact with more high school people
