Hey guys, just a quick question..
Am i allowed to write on the line or the crucible for my text response (part A)? I asked my teacher and he said it would be fine but when i went to the lectures they said that although you can its probably not a good idea because they favour movies or something? Also, what marks should i need for a 49 - 50 if ive gotten aroun 13/30 for all my sacs. Thanks!
-
Huh now I'm just confused. The Line and The Crucible are both Part B texts for conflict, and they simply won't even be listed under Part A and won't have an essay topic. Typo?
-
Nah the text response - part A. Like.. can you use them for part A and B? Our school hasn't really gone over the ones on the list so we were told to do them for both.. does this sound right?
-
...ok...what the HELL kinda school do you go to <_< You can't do The Crucible and The Line for Part A and B...They're only for Part B (the context) and in this case, you'll have to practically start studying a Part A text within a week? Take a look at the sample exam man; there's no essay topics for them in Part A, only Part B under conflict. Erm...GLHFGG. Yeh, I'll just leave it at that...
-
Yeah... I have NO idea wtf your teachers have been telling you but it's pretty simple...
Section A: Text Response - You can chose one prompt from a list of "part A" texts.
Section B: Context - You make reference to ATLEAST one text from a list of "part B" texts.
The Crucible and The Line are both from section B I believe, hence there will be no prompts from either of them in Section A. You will have studied two texts from section A(examples are 1984, Look Both Ways...), therefore you will write on them.

Oh ohk i see. What does GTHFLL mean??? So can i write any of the others like secret river or eternal sunshine?? Will i still have shot at 49-50 if i do conflic and media analyse??

Reply to this: But our school hav not coverd 1984 or look both ways, we've done some of the movie - the crucible, and looked at the age article for media analyse.. how can i get high marks then? i need over 49 for english for my course! :'( what should i do?
-
You have to do all three sections to stand a chance at even getting 35 or so (presuming you get full marks for the other two) o_o Eternal Sunshine and The Secret River are also Part B texts..Go take a look at the sample exam man, it's on the VCAA website
-
What school is this? I swear you could lodge a complaint in to VCAA for them not even teaching you through the course, coz they literally haven't if you haven't covered a part A text...didn't you even do any SACs on this? wtfffffff

They were examples. My point was you would have(SHOULD HAVE) studied two texts from section A.
There is a MASSIVE list of texts from section A.

The texts for Section A are:
A Man for all Seasons - Robert Bolt

4. Don’t Start Me Talking: Lyrics 1984–2004 - Paul Kelly
5. Generals Die in Bed - Charles Yale Harrison
6. Great Short Works - Edgar Allan Poe
7. Hard Times - Charles Dickens
8. Home - Larissa Behrendt
9. Inheritance - Hannie Rayson
10. Into Thin Air - Jon Krakauer
11. In the Lake of the Woods - Tim O’Brien
12. Look Both Ways - Director: Sarah Watt

You should have covered at least one of these texts throughout the year.
-
The texts for section B are: (assuming you are doing the Encountering Conflict context)
- Omagh - Director: Pete Travis
- The Crucible - Arthur Miller
- The Line - Arch and Martin Flanagan
- The Secret River - Kate Grenville

Ok firstly to get a 49-50 in English is extremely hard, to even come close you need to be getting AT least over 97% on all your sacs and a score of around 28-30 on the exam. How do you honestly think that score is even achievable if your average is 13/30 for all your sacs? That is like a D+/C average, and assuming you get similar on the exam you are unlikely to get above 30?
AND you havent studied a text for section A? How do you expect to compare to students who have had months of preparation and multiple reads of a novel, if you havent even opened one of the texts to start with??
What school do you go to? Surely you would have had to do 2 SACS on Reading and Responding to pass the outcomes of unit 3 and 4?
What kind of course needs a 49 for English???
Sorry to be blunt, but that is a very unrealistic goal.

Not trying to be rude if I'm wrong, but is this a troll thread? =_= He lists his aim as 40 English on his sig, and I don't think there's any course that seriously needs 49 English. Not to mention that I don't think there's any school stupid enough to completely miss an area of study, at least not section A if any (section B may be forgivable but still <.<)

TROLL TROLL TROLL!!!!!!!!!
-
but english is my favourite subject! what is troll?
-
A troll is basically someone who goes around making up these types of threads which are peculiar, and quite annoying. If you haven't studied a text from part A, I suggest A Man for All Seasons, as it is a small play, and only 99 pages. Or rent a film and study it (look both ways etc). 'Engish' is also spelled wrong in your signature. I wish you the best of luck for everything.

=T. Basically someone who starts controversial threads just for the sake of drawing attention or starting conflict etcetc.
