Title: factors that influence forgetting
Post by: roly182 on November 05, 2008, 02:12:02 pm
Hey just wondering apart from how meaningful material is and possible the persons age ( slower CNS functioning and for episodic information) what other factors influence the rate of forgetting? i know a lot that dont, but thats all i can thing of for do..
Also, what factors influence the effectiveness of reinforcement ( all i can think of is that it must be percieved as a desirable consequence by the learner, administered after the behaviour so learner established relationship between reinforcement and behaviour...) any others? thanks!

Factors influencing Reinforcement
- Timing
- Appropriateness

Also order of presentation affects Reinforcement/Punishment.
The consequence must be GIVEN after the response, never before.

-Confidence/motivation to remember information is lower in older people, hence resulting in forgetting

-Not sure if you are also referring to the forgetting curve?
If so, well-learned and more meaningful information is forgotten at a steadier rate.

Also, the difficulty of the learned information and learning ability of the individual have no impact on the rate of forgetting

Haha it seems like I've just typed up a whole lot of crap that probably doesn't even relate to your question... sorry >_<
