Title: Burgmann or John XXIII
Post by: mark_alec on September 15, 2010, 09:04:56 pm
I'm planning to be at ANU over summer for a research scholarship and was wondering what opinions people had of these two colleges (which are offered as places to stay for us).

Sweet, I'll probably be doing a summer research scholarship then too. Word on the street is that Burgmann has better food than Johns, though I haven't actually eaten at either. Perhaps ask Eriny, she goes to Burgmann.
If you asked, you could probably actually stay at one of the other colleges - I just plan to stay at Bruce Hall in the Packard wing (self-catered, you get your own little kitchenette and en suite - the rooms are massive too). ANU still pays for it (plus a little bit of extra money for food, I think).

Ooh, last year the summer scholars stayed in the Burgmann post grad village, which is a lot like the Packard wing at Bruce. It's good because while you get free meals in the dining hall, you also have a little kitchen, which can be really useful. Also, at most you'd be sharing a flat with 4 other people and you'd get your own room. I think it's a nicer option that Johns because at Johns you only get a room (no kitchen) and you're sharing toilet and shower facilities with a whole floor, instead of just a couple of people. From what I gather, both are quite liveable for summer scholars, and the food is comparable. Johns and Burgmann do a lot of social events together for summer scholars, so the social life would be almost identical at either place.
