In the University of Melbourne, there is a method used to fetch results a day early. The university announces a date that the results will be published (in my case, the 7th). We will use my example:
On the 6th, all the exams will have been marked and the scores tallied by then (plus any other adjustments they wish to make). They will upload the results onto the database that night, usually before 5pm. The results page will not allow you to login until the 7th, but there is a method to access the database in an alternative way. You can fetch your "full result history," which will send you an automated email in an hour after the request. This will include all your past marks, including the marks that have just been placed on the database recently! So to get your results a day early, you'll want to be using the "full result history" request every hour that day until the email returns your history of marks with the freshly uploaded marks! (Note: if you get ***, it means the marks are not uploaded onto the database yet, try again, and wait another hour. Usually its before 5pm the night before the announced results day.)

Full results history page: https://sis.unimelb.edu.au/cgi-bin/full-results.pl (This is the trick you use :))

That's kind of what I did last semester, though I did it by accident. I was told my results would be out on the Thursday, so I kept checking and they weren't there. So then I randomly requested that they send me my history of results, I don't know why, maybe out of frustration or maybe I thought they'd email me after the results came through. When the email came I was startled because it actually had the results on it, I just scrolled down expecting to see the ***. I plan on doing this on Thursday as well. Good tip!

Woah, does Unimelb know about this glitch? Or are they doing this on 'purpose', I guess you could say?

It's been working ever since my sister's been in university, which is 5 years ago. They are most likely aware of it, but they probably don't care if people get their results early. If they're ready, and people get them, what's the harm? Cost (to fix the system) outweighs the benefit (adhering to the strict timeline). You also will have a higher concentration of people checking on the actual date after it's fixed, which means increased server load, possibly adding to the costs.

Ahh. So maybe its a deliberate glitch to ease the traffic? haha

Just like how VTAC opens the results server for public access at 6:45am to 6:50am. (10 minutes before 7am)

Wow. Excited now
-
I remember u talking about this last semester Coblin, thanks for putting it up again :).
-
Well, 6:06 and it works right now. Try it. :(
-
Just got my results....straight H1's :).
-
i got 71 H2B... =(
just wanna ask.. if my mark is 70.. does that mean that im in the 70th percentile? Is there a way we can know which percentile we are in now?
-
Well. I think your mark is calculated as max(exam mark, 0.9 * exam mark + 0.1 * assignments), with the exception of last year I think, which was scaled a bit due to hard exams.
-
so.. we won't be able to know whether we get 4.0, 5.0 or 5.5 (ie.. our percentiles) for uni maths until the 17th dec when our VCE results are out?
-
Not sure, if you got H1 I'm pretty sure that means 5.5. I think you got 5.0, but don't quote me.
-
Actually, I think it's best you just wait and see if 71 beats 80% of the cohort.
-
so when u say "just wait and see".. does that mean i wait until VCE results are out?
-
WE'RE COMING BACK! WE'RE COMING BAAAAACK!
That's how I feel after today!
January '07: I got REJECTED for Unimaths because I had a shitty year 11 average. I appealed the decision and had it overturned based on my good methods SS and General Maths A average. I swore then I'd show them up for it.
March '07: Everything's running smoothly until WHAM my teacher is struck down with cancer. I should note that, thankfully, he made a full recovery and will be back teaching at Bialik next year. :)
May '07: FINALLY relocate to a new school centre having lost 3 weeks of the curriculum which I had to catch up in my own time.
ALL THAT ADVERSITY AND FINALLY IT PAID OFF.
December '07: H1 AND A MARK OF 81.
HAPPY DOES NOT EVEN BEGIN TO DESCRIBE HOW I'M FEELING AT THIS MOMENT.
-
enwiabe I knew you'd get H1. Well done! :D

Yep, I think you'll just have to wait until VCE results come out.
-
enwiabe I knew you'd get H1. Well done! :D
Ahmad I knew you'd dux. Well done! :P
-
is the pass mark usually 50?
-
is the pass mark usually 50?
Yes...
49 and under = fail
-
nice work everybody!!
...i didnt see ahmads score anywhere how did he go..? just curious LOL
didnt melb UMEP have a midyear exam fo maths?
-

just curious....
Which subject did u do?
Btw..i want to find out my result but the page to access the results is just not working for me..(possible slow internet connection???) :(

I did well, thanks for asking. UMEP does not have mid-years, but it has 2 end of year exams. :)
-
just curious....
Which subject did u do?
I did UMEP maths, thats why i think my score is not that good and may not be able to get a 5.0.....
Does anyone know what was the lowest score in the 60th percentile for uni maths?
sry for asking a lot of questions, I'm seriously really confused at the moment and my friend wants to know as well.. so if my mark is above 50 (ie 60sth) for uni maths, i definitely will get a 4.0 or above?
-
I gonna have to wait till tommorow to see my results!!! :'( :'( :'( Stupid university server is tooo slow >:( >:(
-
Here are my results:
Introductory Macroeconomics: 81
Quantitative Methods 1: 85
Chemistry B (Advanced Studies Program): 94
Applied Mathematics (Advanced Plus): 90
Happy that I got the clean sweep of H1's this semester :)
-
*spits out water* 90 FOR APPLIED MATHEMATICS. SWEET MOTHER OF MC'CAIN. excellent work ;)
Collin, stop pwning. :p

Haha, all my friends laugh at "Advanced Plus." There's "Advanced," then there's Advanced Plus! (+50% more pain in the brain)
-
:D Awesome chemistry score.
WHY NOT 100 huh? Haha.
-

yeah it was definitely scaled, there's no way i only dropped 11% of marks...
heh, i love how there's a forum purely dedicated to UMEP maths. brilliant!
-
Btw, humphdogg you're majoring in maths right? I'm considering it. How are you finding it? :)
-
yes, i am. and for the love of god, please don't waste your talent doing something mindless like actuarial studies! so so so boring... stupid applications. pfft. who wants that? do pure maths :)
but yes. highly enjoying maths - next year i'll only be doing maths courses, 4 each semester. fun! the maths i do is all pretty pure stuff - i have to do some courses on ODEs and PDEs next year but i'll mainly be doing a lot of analysis - real, complex, topology, that kinda thing. i did a 3rd year course on number theory last semester, which was really fun. so i'm hoping that once i've done a complex analysis course next year that i'll be able to do a fair bit of research in analytic number theory - prime number theorem, riemann hypothesis, that kinda thing.
my degree (PhB science) allows me to do a lot more than most undergraduates, mind you. though i do take normal courses, i also get to do ASCs - advanced studies courses. these count as a standalone course, and are basically research. if i were doing bio or chem, it might be a major lab followed by a detailed report (20-40 pages long, at least). as i'm doing maths, basically what it means is that i find a supervisor in the maths department at uni, who sets me up with a topic to research. it's often a graduate level topic - last semester the topic i covered was hyperbolic geometry, while over the summer i'll be doing an ASC on convexity. the supervisor basically guides me for a couple of weeks in my research. we then discuss what i'll write my research paper on. for hyperbolic geometry, we decided on looking into topology; my paper was called something like universal covers and fundemantal domains of hyperbolic manifolds. i then write the paper (mine was only about 10 pages long, but in later years they can be much longer), which is marked.
so yeah. to be honest, i've been surprised how much i've come to love maths at uni. the courses i've been doing have been quite proof-based, and it's easy to get addicted to finding the perfect proof. i did take some physics and astrophysics courses too, but they were pretty boring. maths ftw...
-
THANK YOU FUCK. AHMAD SHOULD NOT WASTE HIS AWESOME, MASSIVE BRAIN ON FUCKING ACTUARIAL. YOU ARE AWESOME. THANK YOU FOR FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT. SAVE AHMAD FROM ACTUARIAL!
-
:smitten: maths
That is, simply put, so awesome Peter. :D
-
hehe. precisely ;)
but srsly, don't do actuarial studies. dreary stuff.
i still don't get why people like you don't apply for PhB. god knows i plug it enough ;D but it's the best science degree in the country. and you 'only' need around 99.65 or so to get a full scholarship at ANU ($10,000 a year).
-
You only need 99.65 at ANU :O. Curse umelb. :(
