so i went to the letter box today and to my amazement i had a letter from monash university. excited much!!!
then i opened it.
it was a letter requesting that i attend an interview blah blah. problem is, the interview is for social and community welfare, which is my 4th preference and i really had no intention of doing it because i am fairly confident ill get by first preference, and of not, my second. so my question is, do i bother confirming that i will be attanding the interview? or do i tell them thanks but no thanks?
-
If you're sure you are not going to take up the course, don't bother.
Just call them up to cancel.
-
sweet thanks. do all uni courses have interviews? the nursing course i want says that only some applicatns will need to attend an interview. what does that mean?

Key word is if you're absolutely sure that:
- you WILL get your first preference, and;
- you definitely will NOT take this preference if offered it.
My suggestion is to not burn any bridges if you can. That being said, it's up to you.

i want to be a nurse. badly. and surely the enter of 70 isnt impossible. i hope. lol. and the fringe enter is like 67 and thats like an average score. i would do the interview, but i dont want to be taking the place of someone who would actually want to be in that course. then again i dont want to ruin my chances at something i would consider doing. i dont know. its all too hard.
-
i know that no one will probably read this or care, but i feel proud for reaching a decision. im going to go to the interview to keep my options open. i mean, how often do you get to practice these things? not only will i learn life skills, but if i failed at life and vce i have something to fall back on. you never know what will happen in life and you might as well take advantage of every offer made to you, else you may miss out.
:)

You won't. That's what 2nd round offers are for!
Furthermore, if you're given an offer ranked higher than this one, the spot is freed for 1st round.

oooh shinjitsuzx what course?
Medicine =T Now let's just hope my ENTER matches my UMAT, and my ability to bullshit surpasses both of these.

Bullshitting: Number 1 in the field of success! :P And you will seriously have no trouble with the ENTER thing, Shinjitsuzx. :)

definately agree there.
-
how many people are you competing against for how many places in medicine?
-
Uhh 500 interviews I think it was for ~180-200 places? Tough competition.
-
.... what do i wear?

Business casual is probably your best bet. This would be a blouse, slacks and perhaps a jacket.

You've been through a test where 336 were selected of candidates numbering in the thousands. I think you'll be fine :P

Our cohort this year was 281, not including those who defered
-
That's surprising. The Monash website says theres only around 200. Hopefully this year there's more though given the scrapping of full-fee places.
-
well there are about 80 full fee paying kids in the course . .
Buti thought they had to keep the same number of positions in the course, hmm
-
wow thats like massive. 280 places is heaps. my first preference has 30. lol. and only like 60 have applied. no interview for that one either. lol.
-
It's all an ENTER competition for those places. :(
-
yeah it sucks how the system works. there are plenty of people with the drive and desire to become doctors and they would make a massive contribution to the health of our country. but no, only those with a good enter can get in, when clearly and enter does not always represent the true capabilities of a person. they need to change the process somehow.
-
Exactly! Most of the doctors nowadays are usually imports from other countries anyway (no offense international students :P). We need more local doctors. :(
-
exactly! if they didnt make it so bloody hard to get in there would be no need to import doctors from elsewhere. (no offence to international doctors. they all do a lovelly job.)
