This downtime also affects those with *@mudki.ps mail aliases / accounts.

I made an emergency visit to turn off the box physically (could not do it remotely) and, on inspection, my fears were more or less confirmed. Thankfully, it sounds like it is in the earlier stages of a hard drive head failure...but you never know.

Seeing as the hardware that powers the bot (among other things) dates back from 2002, I figure it's probably high time to replace it. As a result, I will need to purchase parts and assemble a new server and therefore cannot give a fixed ETA. I'm hoping it will be back up before VCE results come out, but I can't make any guarantees. Worst case scenario is that I will finish the rebuild after I finish my work stint at Monash on December 19th.

I always wondered, what does VCEBot actually do....? It's more or less silenced in #vce isn't it?

Runs trivia in #vce-trivia, and is only silenced 30%* of the time in #vce.



* when people spam commands and enwiabe is in the channel.

A successful data image was taken yesterday from the damaged drive.

I'm currently in the process of restoring this image onto a freshly purchased drive, which will take a few hours (imaging a new hard drive with 320GB of data is NOT a quick thing to do...). Hopefully, if this all goes to plan, the bot + associated services will be back online tonight.

Scratch that, I've run into some epic file system issues. No ETA on this resolution, but the drive array has some redundancy now.

She lives! The bots online (but will probably go down again in the next few days for some minor maintainence).

Yup, this is much appreciated. God knows what all the ickle VCE kids whould have done to pass the time on the evening of dec 14/morning of dec 15 without #vce-trivia. I don't want to think about it. :( *images of razor blades*
