Having done statistics, I can already see a problem:
More female students (78 per cent) than male (22 per cent) agreed to take part in the extensive survey.
n = 185
number of males = 41
number of females = 144
Don't know what the break down is between science/arts students. It also doesn't look like random sampling, so you may have sample bias problems. That is those who agree to answer the survey may be more/less likely to be promiscuous than those who opt not to answer the survey.

They found that students at the colleges with the lowest academic averages had on average the most sexual partners. Oh right. My apologies.
I feel that a person may gain respect and automatically receive attention amongst their peers if they had sex. At least this is what I can observe from my environment
You know "Hey guys, I just banged up this hot chick at a party on the weekend." "Oh nice dude! How was it?" "Who was the girl?" I'm just saying that the whole "process" is overrated, you know, as if it were something of great significance (at least in this kind of age range).
I'm not saying the pleasures received are overrated.
I'm saying this because in a week of school, I'd probably hear someone mention that they slept with a girl at least once and then they'll talk about it for the rest of the period (I go to an all guys school so my examples and views may be disagreed upon).

At the begin of my first year at uni, of all the first year students at my college I'd say at least half of them (probably two thirds even) were virgins. Maybe a quarter of those have lost their virginity since. Even so, there are still a lot of people getting no sex...
