Does anyone have an electronic copy? I can't find it on the VCAA website

Thanks, Jacaranda Physics has done a really rough job on updating their book for the new study design. They've just deleted sections here and there.

Are you talking about the new Jacaranda book? =S If so, that's not good as I use that one as well.

Yep the new one.

Example I found was at one point in the Further Electronics Detailed Study it said, "capacitors were discussed in chapter four" but as far as I can see capacitors, having been removed from the study design for Electronics, had its entire section removed from chapter four. I don't know how the other detailed studies are though. They removed a discussion on reference frames in the motion section which may or may not affect the relativity detailed study.

what are the textbooks for the new physics design?

-jac
-heinemann
-anything else?

i think i use the jac, its got a holographic front cover? is that one the crap one?

Yeah Jacaranda is the holographic cover with waves or something.

Yes, altho I haven't looked at any of the others and maybe jac is relatively better. It's early days yet so need to worry about it right now :)

It is wise to get the new edition of the textbooks or could one use this years book? As NE2000 said the only thing they have done is take out a small section here and there, everything else is the same, right?

you don't need a textbook for Physics 3/4. Seriously it's no use

For the theory? :O No?

nope, just listen in class, and do exams. textbooks are useless. I only used them for pre-reading, most of the stuff is taught in class

we never used the textbook in class, and one of my friend's school didn't even put a textbook on their booklist.

to say the truth, there really isn't much to learn in physics, and now that a lot of things have been taken out, there is even less to learn.

i second that, using the text book actually made me do worser... you dont need a textbook.

Ah okay thanks Mao. It's all about the teacher then :O

It was a disadvantage to use a textbook? How did it come down to that? :S

Could you or anyone else specify, from what you know, what material has been taken out for the new course?

As far as I can tell from this site [ http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/correspondence/bulletins/2008/march/2008MARLIFT.pdf ], the only changes are to Unit 3, which are:

• **“Absolute nature of space and time” removed** [Motion]
• **No more transistor amplifiers** [Electronics / Photonics]
(although voltage amplifiers are retained)

(All the key point modification stuff on that website seems largely irrelevant, I was looking for explicit information about removal of required knowledge!)

No more transistor amplifiers! Hahaha. Very few of the physics teachers understood them anyway.
