Kaka is easily better than those two. I follow the EPL, I generally have supported Arsenal and West Ham over the years. Glad to see the Gunners back in form. I also support Rangers in the SPL. Champions League is looking to be a top one this year as well.

soccer dates back to 400 or so BC

AFL dates back to....1858

therefore soccer has....about.....2000 years head start on aussie rules.

Pfft. As if 150 years isnt enough time to establish a sport.

In 3 years time the A-league is averaging over 13,500 in attendance per league game with a salary cap of 1.8 mil while juddy gets close to 1.5 mil or whatever.
AFL is a great sport but by no means will EVER contest the world game

A-league isnt a sport. its soccer.

Aussie rules is an Australian sport. Gridiron is American. Hockey is predominantly Canadian. none of these ever plan to 'contest' soccer. the main reason soccer is the world sport is because its incredibly simple, cheap and you can play it anywhere; thus it is extremely popular in poor countries and poor communities.

ohh this is now my favourite thread.

I goo for MAnchester United, glory glory man united. Yes i know most of you will probably think I go for man united just because they're popular, and i probably dont know any players.

In fact i follow man united with passion, and am always on www.manutd.com checking the latest news, even though its VCE =]

4-0 this morning yeooowww, i rkn tevez and rooney are one hell of a striker partnership. They compliment each other well.

ohhh and nani has class written all over him, as well as Pique.

Doesn't change the fact that football is extremely popular in very affluent areas also.

You don't have to justify whether or not you're a bandwagoner, as long as you can intelligently discuss all things EPL (which most bandwagoners can't) then that's good enough.

United looking dangerous, was a good match between them and Arsenal, looked like Arsenal were lucky to get the point on paper but we would have rued it if we got nothing from it.

From all accounts Pique is going to be a very good player, as Nani, Tevez, Rooney and Ronaldo already are.
Not sure if I like Anderson though.

agreed, although anderson looks to be a good passer of the ball ... hmm arsenal were very lucky, and considering it was played at the emirates stadium, wait till they come to the 'theatre of dreams'

hmm inter impressed me in the UCL, this morning coming back from 2-0 down, ibrahimovic = star.

I blame Rafa's Rotation Policy.

If he wants any silverware he's going to find a 1st XI soon.

Or do what Wenger does and play his 2nd XI in FA and League Cup matches.
Seems to work for him.

Unless Elano has 4 identical twin brothers who are all as good as him.

I think they'd need some Micah Richards multiples also.
He said he wants to join the Gunners one day.

Happy times.

don't be scared, like united's legendary 21 year serving coach, fergy said the start of the season always throws up some suprise results, and some suprise placings in the league.

Come the end of the year, it'll be the usual top 4 again.

Hopefully :).
I watched the last half hour of the Pool v Fulham match, Torres did alright.
I think he and Crouch would make a good partnership.
Supremely powerful + supremely tall = maybe some exciting football from  Liverpool?

Oh and I was only watching to see if Adrian Leijer the ex-Melbourne Victory boy got a run....he didn't :(

Hopefully next match they'll give him some game time.

We need an A-League thread.

yeahh and liverpool don't rely on torres and gerrard .. OR barca don't rely on messi.

united have got class all over the pitch, they don't have to be big names to be class acts. I mean look at our midfield, the only big name is ronaldo and maybe hardgraevs ... other than that giggs. scholes, and carrick, all get the job done superbly.

we have one of the best defenses in the league .. with ferdiand and vidic as one of the best central defender combination ive seen soo far.

& evra as an attacking defender.

saha can easily come in and replace rooney, only thing is I don't think he complements tevez very well.

hence, united will not slide down the ladder, due to rooney's 4 week absence.

united's bringing home the trebble this yearr baby !

haha...we do sorta rely on torres, but definetely not gerrard. we have xabi and masch for the CM possie. i reckon it'd be fair to say that liverpools defence also ranks among the best. we'll have to see wont we???

------------------Reina-----------
Finnan-----Agger-----Carragher-----Arebola
------------------Masch-----------------
Pennant-----Gerrard------Alonso------Babel

That's one good looking team :)

True, but Kewell hasn't been at his best for 4 matches > since his Leeds days
One of his long-rangers against Villa   at Elland rd was absolutely amazing, although Carbone scored one of similar quality against Leeds  :D  during the cup run of 2000 that Wst mentioned

yeah i noe it sucks. if he wasnt injured all the time, i truly believe that he could have been one of the best wingers in the world. haha yeah i still remember that strike, but not more so than his last in a leeds shirt against arsenal, to give leeds a 3-2 win. what a goal!!!!

and does any1 play fm here???

Curse you harry kewell.

Re: FM.
Religiously...which is the only way it can be played. :D

haha...yeah true....have u got fm 08 yet??? i think i'm going to go blind from the background :S

Haven't got it yet, but as soon as exams end I'll be all over that bad-boy.
Played them all from 01-02 onwards.
In 01-02 I had a Lazio file go until 2022. It was freakin' sweet, I was coach of Italy too, made a regen player who was terrible the captain of italy and the penalty taker.
He ended up with 50 caps and about 20 goals (MC) and worth about 20 mil (AUD) when he should have been worth about 2 and playing in Serie C.  :D

Ever heard of Kevin Kyle?
My game was so ridiculous I managed to sell him to Celtic for 20 million australian.

Sorry back on topic.

Good win by arsenal in the EPL, totally outclassed Reading, could have won by 5 or 6 if all went our way.

Thats good. Im playing a-leauge now and I think Im at a stage in the game where the salary cap doesnt increase which really pisses me off because I bought Burns and heaps of other good players (Nicolas Milan -colo colo) and some other scouted players etc and now they just all wanna leave (lejier is going to nurmberg, burns gone somewhere and about 8 other players are gonna leave cause i cant keep them with the salary cap =( )

Whats better about the a -league?

Ohh that sucks, Millan is awesome

I don't think I'm going to do an A-League file, the salary cap annoyed me too much last time, it was literally impossible to win the A-league AND the ACL, just not enough good quality young australians willing to play for peanuts.

Maybe a Holland file is on the cards, see if i can bring one of those bad boys a Champions League Trophy.

Or a lower league english team promotion to Premier League adventure.

ohhhhhhhhhhh hell yeah! hi5 :D

ah btw ive made a fantasy.premierleague.com mini league for FSN all are welcome to join, what ive done is make the league begin with the next round of matches, ie. people who have been playing since the start of the season dont get the extra advantage :P so we're all on a level playing field

to join go to fantasy.premierleague.com

register a team first n all that, pick your team, 2 'keepers, 5 defenders, 5 midfielders and 3 strikers. then go to "leagues" which is on the left hand side of the menu options

then enter this code: 1029252-243413 to join :) hopefully it'll be more than just me.. hahaha so dont forget it doesnt matter that we're nearly half way through the season coz we're only starting to count points from the next gameweek which is the 24th of this month! so lets get going people! :D

FIFA 08 isn't as arcadey as it once was. mimicks the game really well now. you can't really score like 5+ goals each game on a appropriate difficulty unlike other versions.

began watching football wen harry and mark linked up at leeds.

tbh i don't follow italy alot (a lot is wrong with their game over there), but from wat i've seen, (maybe because i've only really started watching the ucl, cos leeds hardly used to play) maldini has never caught my eye. maybe it's cos he's coming to the end of his 23 year career, and i haven't witnessed him at his peak, but that is my opinion.

agger is excellent defensively, and u can regularly see him play in something like a dm, which is very valuable, enabling him to score more goals. his goal scoring record is x2 than maldinis.

yeh that's fair enough... I still can't get over the 'maldini is a hack' comment though. Just last week in the club world cup he played pretty damn well and made some potentially goal scoring tackles.

sure Agger may be good but I don't think he belongs in the same breath as maldini let alone compared to.

Best midfield.. it's obvious what I'm gunna say =P

Milan:
Gattuso - Pirlo - Seedorf
---------Kaka'-------

I don't think I have to explain if you watched the CL last year ;)

The results of it show.

UCL winners, Club World Cup Winners, Uefa super cup winners.
Not to mention it includes the Ballon d'or and World Player of the Year and 2 members of Italy's world cup squad.

haha it's all good, I just get a bit fired up over my beloved Milan, especially Paolo!

Gattuso plays on the right but he is keep and not really used as an attacking option (thank god!) he doesn't have that much skill, only lots of heart and passion.

Since Kaka pushed up forward (just behind striker) Gattuso plays as DM on the right and Ambrosini DM on the left to leave Pirlo some attacking freedom.

So who's gunna win CL this year?
I hope anyone but Chelsea and Manure =P
