OK i stuffed up the UMAT so i was hoping to get 95 and get in thru the mlebourne model.
But i got 93.75 so i now have to do biomedical science at monash (which is far away), can i transfer to biomedicine and medicine at melbourne in the 2 year? If so, wat does it take?
-
why not do science at melbourne and transfer to biomed?

Is it very competitive? What do i have to do to get in that way?
Is there any chance i can still get in? LLike Fringe?
-
There are alot of varibles, like SEAS applications and such, but i think your score of a might get you into science at melbourne. A guy i went to school with last year got a CSP place in science at UoM with an enter of about 85
-
your science chances are pretty good, your biomed chances not so good.
i would recommend taking science and then either transferring to biomed (i don't see the point though to be honest). you just take some prereq 2nd yr subs, and then take the GAMSAT (they take selection from that into the MD)

Nah. I wanna do biomed because........
Say i stuff up the GAMSAT, i can always do bio-engineering (become a biomedical engineer) i cant do that with science.

and/or http://www.eng.unimelb.edu.au/Postgrad/MEng/me_biomedical.html (you only need a 65% average for entry, easy)

Cheers for the link. But still not sure about the electives.
DO i have to choose bio-engineering subject straight from year 1? If so, does that rule me out of medcine?
-
OK i will rephrase that. The site says i can gain entry into medicine via Bachelor of science only if i pick the right subjects for medicine.
However, i also want to leave my options open for biomed engineering, do i have enough room to pick subjects available to be able to master in both these subjects?
-
Well leaving those options open in through to the end of 2nd year is probably not gonna happen. Med and bioengineering are just that bit too different to keep open for a long time.
You'll have to make a choice, or take a non-Melbourne route. :(

Damn. See heres the thing. WHat if i dont do well in the GAMSAT? Then that means i cant get into med. And since i havent chosent bio-eng electives i will be left out into the cold.
I will have to do something that i dont like.

That's the sting in the post grad Melbourne Model structure, with law, med, whatever. The entry tests are a total unknown.
PM me if you have any more questions or whatever, I'm doing 2nd yr Science next year and keeping options open still (considering Med or post grad research)

Cheers mate, thanks for the support.

Well not completely unknown. The GAMSAT is well known. And how much is the weighting to gain entry into med?
Like how much % is GAMSAT worth?
ALso (this might sound subjective) but is it "hard" to get in post grad, like wat average mark wud i be looking at?
-
Hard to say, it doesn't start until '11. I have no idea of the standards. They don't mention anything about your uni grades. You will of course be competing against a lot of the biomed kids, plus external applications though.

It's med, of course it's going to be extremely competative to get in. They just started post-grad med at ANU last year, and the people I know doing it generally did bio stuff in their undergrad with solid marks (definitely Distinction average and higher) and excellent GAMSAT results.
