From what I understand at the moment from various other threads, I don't think it's very fair.
I did maths methods this year; I competed with a cohort and I did two exams. I received my RAW study score based off this year's results.
What I'm hearing is, the scaling of this subject is only determined based off next year's scaling.
How does that work fairly? Next year's exams are different; the people are different. Why should my score be based off next year's scaling?
So say a person received 42 which scaled to 46.8 this year. I received 42 this year, but it might be a 45.5 next year? I just don't think the system works very well.

From what I've heard, your SS scales according to this year.

I initially thought that, too. But look around in the other threads. A few people have said the above :S

I'm pretty sure it's this year's. Doesn't it defy the whole purpose of scaling if you're scaled against next year's?
I remember having to prove this to someone and I found something on the VCAA website. My head's still spinning right now but so I cbf finding it.

I've always been told that scaling goes according to the year you get your ENTER. I'm pretty certain that's what occurred with my results, in any case.
Seems a bit unfair in some ways, but it does make sense in how the scaling works; they need your results from other subjects in order to determine how every thing should be scaled.

"VCE studies are always scaled in the year in which they were
undertaken (this may not necessarily be in the year in which you
receive your ENTER). If you have successfully completed any VCE
studies since 1991 and have undertaken and received a study score
in at least one VCE study this year or have satisfactorily completed
an unscored VET study; your previous scaled scores will be
considered in your ENTER."

Ah thank you /0.
"..may not be necessarily.." Hmm.
