i want to buy an mp3 player under $300
must be more than 4gb preferably 8 or 20
i was considering an ipod but i really do not need 80gb of space at all and i don't like how the nano's look plus i don't want to buy the charger + insurance and what not cos i can't afford over $300
so recommend me ones that fit the above specifications please :)

i think you should go for an iriver. Not sure how much they cost, but I know someone who has a durable 20gb one, have a look at them
-
Sony, all the way...
or Creative, get a Zen ;D
-
Or you could buy one of the older generation iPods from eBay...they'll do the job just fine.

DO NOT buy an iPod.
Although they are good in their ways, they don't have a radio built in (I tend to want a radio now :/) and iTunes is a big load of BS! >:(
-
ahh please recommend actual models not just the brand cos i really have no idea haha
-
No do not get that creative zen thing ... my sister has one and it just sucks! lol ... just get an ipod =) the new nano is pretty good (I have one of them :) ) lol It's about $279 from memory I think >.< lol
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO iPods :P

Only if you don't mind iTunes.
Because it is crap.
And if you don't mind paying more for a radio.
Thaks.

LOL
i'd suggest abandon mp3s altogether. buy a nice phone, buy a nice bluetooth headset, buy a nice big memory card, and use that!
I used to like the idea of having movies on my mp4, but i found it was so obsolete... that tiny screen is pretty much useless however big ur mp3 is, unless it's like laptop sized...
hence Sony Ericsson FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D
oh btw i also found ultra-massive memory is overrated, c'mon you can only ever listen to one song at a time! get the new winamp, every now and then plug ur card/mp3 in, clean it and sync a new list onto ur mp3, simple, a 2Gb will fit 400 songs = a day+, u gotta be psycho to want more....

see those phones are like a billion dollars and i really can't be bothered changing the songs everyday

Just go shopping :)
EDIT: As you can most likely tell, it is all up to personal preference. Just go see what you like :)

Mine's a black Sony Walkman NWZ-S616F... 4 GB, cost $199. I love it, it's an awesome little player, I'd highly recommend it. I was choosing between the Sony one and a 4 GB Creative Zen V+ at the same price, and chose the Sony one. Its screen and interface is (in my opinion) much better than that of the Zen V+. ;D
They've got an 8 GB model (NWZ-S618F), but I haven't seen it for sale at many stores. I got my 4 GB one at Dick Smith Electronics (only because I had a $100 gift voucher :P)

To be honest, I would simply recommend you buy what you can afford (and need in terms of size) from a reputable brand (iPod, Creative and iRiver immediately spring to mind). The reality is most MP3 players are all the same and the majority of people won't be able to notice the difference in 'sound quality' - definitely not with those crappy earbuds you get with them.
Try having a look on StaticICE (www.staticice.com.au) to see where you can purchase various models from. Especially if you're after anything that just works, there are a number of budget(?) models on the market that sound work fine.
People have already mentioned some brands (and even models) - using this website (and Google), you should be able to do your own research.
Good luck!

Don't get some cheap no-name brand one though, they're not good. I had one before my current Sony one, and it slowly fell apart :P
If you really must be cheap, MSY sell a MP3 player (MAYA MP-107, the one I had) that takes SD cards for $29. It needs an SD card, which is $26 for 2 GB. The player is alright, although it tends to slowly fall apart (ie, the buttons will slowly fall further and further inwards, until the thing inside it holding the button snaps off). Mine lasted about a year though, so it's not too bad :P

you can download a heap of other programs to use if you dont like itunes, its not problems.
lol radio isnt what i call the highest priority in terms of a mp3 player... + most people have radios on their mobiles....
IPODS: you can also buy the old versions & cheaper ones (i.e ones that had damaged packaging etc) from the apple website...come with the same warranty
