Title: New P-Plate System

I was just thinking... I've got my Ps (so I'm under old laws), but what happens when the new laws kick in? Do we keep our red and white Ps, or do we buy the green ones? Police might pull me over for carrying more than 1 passenger (or towing or some other new law) when those laws do not apply to me because I fit under the old system. Does that make any sense? And people might think I'm a brand new P-plater, when in reality I might have had my licence for a year or 2 already. Someone was asking me about it today, and I really don't know. I find these new laws strange and confusing. :-\

I am not 100% sure but I think you would stay on the old system and have a different License to those on 'Green P's'

What annoys me is that no information is being made available to the public. I went to the RACV free2go site cause I was skimming thru the Royal Auto mag and they said that they had a link on their site to information on the new laws but when you click on the links it says "access denied" on the Arrive Alive site. So obviously the information is ready and stored on the site but the general public are being kept in the dark about the details of the laws.

I was on a site a couple of months ago and it had everything about the new laws but I can't seem to find it anymore :/

Current P platers will have to switch to the green plates, with the red plates reserved for those who get their Ps after July 1. The one passenger rule doesnt apply to those who get their Ps before July as well.

I heard that after July 1 every first-year P plater will switch over to the green p's and go by the new rules? After a year you switch back to the red p's but still follow the rules except the speed limit rule? (Apparently you can only go a certain speed on the green p's?)... It's all confusing.

If you are able to get your license now, you better book quickly because everyone is trying to get in before the new system. Roughly two months in advance.

Possibly longer than 2 months. I booked mine last month and i had to wait 10 weeks

Drive test appointment delays
VicRoads is experiencing an increase in demand for licence test appointments in the lead up to the introduction of the Graduated Licensing System's new probationary licence measures from 1 July 2008. 

The high volume of learner drivers trying to obtain their licence under the current system (before 1 July 2008) has resulted in higher than average wait time for licence tests. 

The increased volume of licence test appointments has meant that many of VicRoads' metropolitan Customer Service Centres are almost fully booked until 30 June 2008. 

You can be assured that VicRoads is releasing as many licence test appointments as possible.

Learner drivers undertaking a licence test on or after 1 July 2008 will be required to meet the new probationary requirements.

The aim of the Graduated Licensing System is to save young drivers' lives, by helping them to become safer drivers.

VicRoads would like to thank the Victorian community for their patience and understanding during the transition period.

im 18 2moro and im going for my licence may 1st i booked 3 months in advance aswell, its ridiculous.

I booked my license test about 2 days in advance. All you do is call up every day until a cancellation inevitably comes along.

I booked... ermm... bout 2 months in advance (rang up Feb 5th and booked in for March 26th). I remember the earliest they had @ my branch was March 18th, but I had 2 find a day that my instructor was free as well. I turned 18 months ago, I was just... busy... and probably a lil lazy.

I think im much lazier. I've been 18 since August last year :)

whoo did my hazards today and got 86% pretty happy with that considering i know a lot of people who only got low 70s

Congrats :D

I have a thread somewhere about hazards test, and yes, most ppl seem to only get 70s. I got less than that, but we shall not speak of my score :-X ;D
