If you live equidistant from a train and tram stop, and are going somewhere easily accessible by both [ie: Fed Sqr], how much sooner [if at all] would the train get you there?
-
It's hard to gage, because it depends on the specific tram route, but trains basically take ~2 minutes per station. So for example, five train stations take about 10-12 minutes. (But add extra time for the lateness of the train)
The best site to use would be http://viclink.com.au, because it calculates the best route for you.

useful, thx

Trains are faster.

For where you're, train.
Trams are bound by speed limits and traffic. Trains travel at around ~70km/h and only stop at stations. The drawback is you lose the distance between the train and the tram stop before Fed. Square (ie, platform and concourse).
Train.
The viclink site is a good one to use to plan.
