g'day, just thought i'd see if anyone has any experience with bad exams marks. I received my statment of marks and scored 38/60 (63%) on the english exam which was the lowest B+ mark. Considdering the fact i was probably in the top 10% in the sacs (usually got over 26/30 for individual essays on sacs) and around 35% of the people in my school got over 40 for the subject this seems very wrong. The only thing i can do seems to be to ask the principal to get a confirmation of grades.Is there any chance that they might find any errors , or did i realy just shank the exam:P any opions would be appreciated, thanks.

well like i said, about 35% of the year level got over 40 as a study scores and there were also a few 50's.

well if i went well comapred to others in the school and they all got 30 as study score then thats shows i did as expected. But since everyone went well then my mark is lower than you'd expect it to be, becuase the sacs are the only comparrison available realy.

Hmm, well, doesn't seem like your school's SACs are too easy. How did you feel about your performance in the exam? Ask for a confirmation of grades - however, it's unlikely that you'll be able to do anything about it. English is quite a subjective subject to mark, it's not like maths or science where examiner mistakes are easily spotted.

I got B+ on the exam too, I feel your pain, somehow my SAC scores went from A+ to B+ which is weird as considering we had a 45, 43 and a few high 30s and I was ranked fairly high.

yeah i see your point, was just curious if similair things have happened to other people. somehow i doubt they'll pick up on any computational errors but you never know:P oh btw i got a A+ A+ B+ and 38 so sacs definately helped a lot.

You say you got a bad exam mark and say that this should be wrong because your school preformed well? How well your school's cohort did has nothing to do with your exam mark. You say your highly ranked (top 10%) and say just because you got a B+ means that something is wrong. Maybe you didn't have a great exam, or didn't preform well enough to justify your SAC ranking. Your school obviously went well and your SAC marks went up to A+'s however you didn't do as well on the exam as you have done in SAC's so I see nothing wrong here.

yes. SAC marks do not swing the exam marks around.
its the opposite.
eg. IN A NUT SHELL:
You have been slack about english the whole entire year, but you decide to study for exams. Your exam mark is A+, but sac marks are D+ & D+. therefore, SAC's are raised up to say C+.

i didn't mean sacs changed my exam score, but if i didnt do as well on the sacs a B+ my study score would have been more like 35, as sacs count 50% towards the calculation of the marks. But yeah, exam marks don't change

it's quite possible i didnt do as well in the exam, but dropping marks around 20% while others did as good or better on the actual exam is whats puzzling me.

Yep, the exam mark never changes, it's only the SACs that are moderated.
I also got B+ in the exam (there are so many of us :P), but I was one mark from an A (41/60). Kind of made me wish I hadn't bought a Statement of Marks. XD

Unless you have evidence that you were harshly graded, then probably note. By evidence, I mean if you applied to look at your script book and compared what you'd written there to your statement of marks, and if there was an obvious discrepency (like if you'd gotten 0 for a question that you had obviously answer correctly) then it's possible.
On the whole, it is extremely rare for an exam to get remarked.

Yes, but you need to order a Statement of Marks and to also organise to inspect your Script Book before you can apply to have your exam re-assessed.

It's not like you can do anything about it now anyway, ur preferences are already in.

Each section of your english exam is marked by two assessors, both who have no idea what the other decided on when they mark it. If there is a big discrepancy between the marks, then a third person marks it. If there is still no agreement, then I think the chief assessor marks it.
Anyway, I'm sorry, but my point is that it's unlikely there could have been an error...however, for your peace of mind, you could try checking.

Unless you have evidence that you were harshly graded, then probably note. yeah that make sense ur grade- as gay as that sounds. I got the same as u and a study score of 41.
also with psych I got A+ A+ A+ and got 40 too, while my friend who got A+ A+ A got 42 lol
The system is just confusing. But I'd say that sac marks and rankings do count for quite a bit. I dont know why some ppl say they dont.
