IMO, that article is a massive strawman. When did the Republican party ever intend to have that sort of effect from picking Palin? In my opinion, the Republicans chose Palin because she was more likely to keep true conservatives from feeling deserted by the seemingly liberal McCain (who has not voted in a very conservative way).
-
I read a little while ago: "saying 'the most liberal Republican candidate' is like saying 'the most sophisticated teletubby'"
-
Even if I ignore the suggestion that "the least retarded Republican is still retarded," I still disagree.
The Republicans and Democrats have been working on the same platform for a long time. When the Republicans previously campaigned to reduce the size of the Department of Education, they double the spending. They come in and install the No Child Left Behind Act, which has been another communistic, one-size-fits-all failure. When the Republicans get voted in on a platform of no nation building (Bush), they get a war on Afghanistan, a war on Iraq and now apparently they're planning to cross into Pakistan and strike Iran.

There was a really good article in the Age a few weeks back. Basically it said that rednecks, farmers and generally clueless people living in regional America are voting for the Republicans, even though they have no idea. The gist anyway is that unfortunately these people are voting in the wrong people. If Obama doesn't win...there really is something wrong
-
"When the Republicans get voted in on a platform of no nation building (Bush),"
what constituted Bush's "platform of no nation building"?

[I can't see the video atm], but I hardly think him saying that once means that's his policy.
here was the article with the quote, a refutation of mccain's liberalism

If you watch the video, Bush goes on to attack the failed nation-building attempts in Haiti in Somalia in great depths. He speaks very wise words of non-interventionism.
-
oh, I thought you meant the American nation when you said "nation-building"
-
If Obama doesn't win...there really is something wrong
agreed

Everyone seems to love Obama, but seriously who's gonna vote. Compulsory voting doesn't exist in the USA.
...and Sarah Palin would appeal to the demographic that would - the middle aged bible belt vote.
-
If Sarah Palin becomes vice-president (god forbid), I'm moving to Mars. Or the moon!
kcool

I should really utilize the quote function. But now silly NBC removed it, thanks for the updated links.
