Title: Brownlow 2008
Post by: psychlaw on September 22, 2008, 07:47:34 pm
Its on in half an hour... whos your favourite? who do you think will win

Abletts the obvious favourite to take it out, Bartell had a great season aswell... It'll probably be one of the geelong boys but I'm hoping for Brent Harvey to win it - just so Geelong doesn't hog everything this year

Yeah I agree its out of either Ablett, Bartel or Harvey to win the brownlow, it will be a very close contest. As for the red carpet, I missed it :(.

I hope an Essendon or Geelong player wins! I have a soft spot for those teams. On the other hand, I think Simon Black is destined for yet another Brownlow medal. :(

I LOVE ESSENDON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TO THE MAX!

i reckon black will take it out . good on him :)
my tips were ablett.... dunno where he went off to...

dont overestimate black, his polling well now but he, like richo, was much better in earlier rounds

things aren't looking favourable for ablett though, if you remember the 3 rounds where he didn't play are yet to come... but his still got time

at this stage, I'm just favouring ablett, but bartells also up there

... don't forget last season, judd was leading by 4 or 5 after 8 rounds, he ended up coming equal 11th

wow

anyone can win it now... the favourites bartell and harvey havn't done well yet, though Bartell will get some votes here on in seeing as this is the stage where ablett got injured

speaking of ablett being injured, he missed 3 games which could cost him the brownlow

I wonder whos going to win, my bet is just on ablett, after that I have no idea... Harvey has little chance because he didn't score well enoguh from here (but his A game was at the end of the season)

Guess we have to wait and see

sorry about spamming, lol
got a bit excited  ;)

bartel gone
harvey gone
ablett unlikely given his injury will affect the next 4 rounds

cooney favourite to take it from here on i reckon

Well done to Coondog, although I had $10 on Black from a bet I made 3 months ago. I was one vote away from winning $65 :(. It was nervous watching the last few rounds I must admit.

I don't think cooney is that great a player, but it was awesome to see richo poll like he did. I can't even remember the last time a richmond player did that well.

yea definately, it the closest brownlow I've ever seen. Anyone could have won it, from the last round even...

cooney is one of few elite midfields who can lead there team from the midfield and control play all round... those players win games and are highly sought after as seen with judd, ablett, bartell, kerr, cousins, goodes and a couple more

I dont think Cooney is a fantastic player compared to others in the AFL but he is the bulldogs best player. Bulldogs won alot of games this year so when the umpires place their votes cooney often gets 1, 2 or 3 because there is no other outstanding player from the bulldogs to rival him. I believe Ablett is more deserving but because they have so many fantastic players they steal votes off eachother. Bartell i think got 16, selwood got 17 and ablett 22.

My 2 cents worth

Got to agree with the above post, Cooney did well but wasn't the leagues best and fairest IMO. Biggest problem for Geelong was teammates stealing eachothers votes. If Gaz had played for say Collingwood you'd expect him to win hands down but nonetheless and excellent season from Cooney. Stepped up his game and is an A grade midfielder now.

I didn't see this result coming got to admitt, and OMG RICHO what a man he polled an awesome 22 votes, top effort from the big fella. If he ONE MORE BOG(best on ground) in round 22 against Melbourne he would've had it...(love the IF's in footy)

Cooney also looked pretty pissed when he accepted his award, I think the dogs were on Mad Monday for most of the day and he was still recovering.

This year was just another example why the Brownlow is a joke:
Adam Goodes had 14 touches and 4 behinds for 2 VOTES
Jimmy Bartell had a lazy 38 touches- 28 in the 2nd half O VOTES
Nick Riewoldt had 25 touches, 18 marks and 3 goals 0 VOTES
MickyO 19 touches, 8 marks, 6 goals 0 VOTES

goodes got 2 votes for getting 19 possie game i think against geelong, and his team lost.

safe to say about 80% of the cats team would've done better than him without looking up the stats. it was a joke really.
