my ENTER scores is 86.75
im after engineering at the university of melbourne which the guarantee enter score for 2009 is 85
i have met all prerequisite
do u think my score is high enough to get in this course?
any help would be appreciated
-
wow, i wouldnt of asked that quesiton.
i got slammed for me asking a question JUST like this,
noone still has answered my quesiton when i asked something like this...
garentee as is CLEARLY IN? if so,
i assume so that youd be garenteed :)
-
YAY!
Engineering at Unimelb!
You have a 99% likelihood of getting into Melb Uni Engineering, unless the demand for engineering at melb uni suddenly becomes high.
Your pretty much accepted into the Engineering course :)
I'll see you at Melb Uni Engineering next year :D
-
i still cant figure out wth is "guarantee " supposed to mean.
cos the literal explanation of this word indicates that if u can a score above guarantee enter score
it should be okay for me to get in
but i have got various answers for this "gurantee "
question

WTF?
get over yourself SERIOUSLY! I WAS HELPING! ARE YOU BLIND?!?!?
sorry to say but that's not help. You're merely preventing others from helping redsato by demanding your needs be met first. It's not the place to ask for your question to be answered when redsato clearly made this forum so that his question gets some answers. If people see the need to slam him for asking a question then so be it. But no need to actually tell him/or who i assume is just new that they'll get hammered for asking a question. It's not the place!

A guaranteed ENTER basically means, from my knowledge of how VTAC and all work, that if you attain an ENTER score equal to or greater that the guaranteed ENTER, you are offered a place in that course to that institution as long as you also meet the pre-requisites for the course. Some one correct me if i'm wrong?

^^^
Ok. I just pulled out the Melb Uni 2009 undergraduate handbook.
Melb Uni's definition of Guranteed ENTER:
"a predetermined academic standard at which (provided prerequisite studies and any other specific course requirements are met) applicants will be eligible for a place. For Australian students, Commonwealth supported places will be offered first, on the basis of academic merit, and all remaining eligible applicants will be offered an Australian fee place (provided they have expressed a preference for such a fee place)"

you guys need to get your eyes checked.
if you read my post i did write
garentee as is CLEARLY IN? if so,
i assume so that youd be garenteed :)
i was just telling him so that if others had a go at him...that he saw it coming. im allowed to post whatever i want. and if you cannot read, i did help him by telling him what I THOUGHT and little bits and peices others have told me too.

thanks a lot....squance
hopefully u can see me on compus next yr

noone still has answered my quesiton when i asked something like this...
errr I did answer it
theres a course in warnambool Deakin University.
and.... its law!
68 ENTER.
72.55 ENTER plus SEAS... will i get it?
lol, yes, you've gotten higher then needed for the course
I NEED ALL THE PROS AND CONS FOR -go do law in Deakin, or stay in melb and do arts at various places... and transfere!!
You'd probably be the best decider of all the pros and cons about staying or leaving
-

Enough is fucking is enough guys. Dusty only came to help, and you are only making it difficult for her. We at FSN, respect all opinions.
Remember, bullying is NOT TOLERATED.

All off-topic bickering ceases now. Thanks.
-
Okay, this pointless bickering and fighting stops NOW. The NEXT PERSON to post something attacking a member will earn a ban for 1 day.
There is no use in this petty argument.
Dekoyl + humph + vce08 + others: Your frustrations with dusty and happy etc. have been made clear by now. There is no point in hammering it home again and again.
Dusty: Please stop getting upset over this. I am of the opinion that their frustrations were warranted. The MSN-style spam was very annoying.
I'm going to say now that that in no way justifies bullying. Which is where I see this as headed. Let me make this perfectly clear. Bullying is not tolerated on this website. And any further harassment of Dusty will be taken seriously.
By the same token, dusty, I think it would be a step in the right direction for you to heed the frustrations of the community and begin to post more constructively and on topic.
Give each other a chance, and I'm sure this animosity will die quickly and everyone can simply move on.
Respect the almighty enwiabe (not sarcasm)
Please?

Highly doubtful.
I mean you only just got over the clearly in and have met all the prerequisites.
You might get lucky if you have SEAS or Access Melbourne though.

How would they know the Clearly in Enter when they don't know the demand? I would have thought that was just a guide.
-

Do you mean the demand of students applying for the course?
-
Yeah..
-
i thought it was a guide too.
but vce08 seems to think that EVERYONE who gets over clearly in... is automatically in.
thats what he told me anyway...
-
Yes dusty that is true.
If you get an ENTER over the 2009 clearly-in you get a CSP place 100%! (if you meet all the pre-requsitite studys and score and any additional forms they may have asked for, UMAT etc)
-
What if there are a lot of people applying for that particular course and they can't accept too many, what happens then?

okay so i have senario.
say if for instance monash has 300 spaces for bachelor of law. the enter is 70. what if 400 people apply for the course? what happens from there?

The 'clearly in' ENTER is determined AFTER the university knows how many people have applied, and what 'quality' (i.e ENTER's) of the students.
So in that case, if more people applied than available spots, the clearly-in ENTER would likely increase.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
EDIT: Fucked up the quote thing.
-

I assume highest ENTER's comes first? (someone please correct me here)
-
i thought undergrad fee places were being phased out in 2009? so that the guaranteed ENTER doesn't mean much anymore
-

ok... dusty, the clearly in is formulated THROUGH the demand and supply of a course.
I can't answer your qeustion because it doesnt actually make sense, because things don't work like that.
Lets say for example in 2007 the ENTER for a course was 75.20 because there was 200 places available and 1000 people applied for it.
Now in 2008, the same course has been inundated with applicants due the the increased employment opportunities for graduates from this degree. There are still only 200 places available but people with higher ENTERs have made up the majority of the new applicants. There are now 2000 people applying for this course (with many more of them having ENTER's above 75.20).
Now the ENTER will rise (perhaps to 80-85) ... until demand and supply are met (an equilibrium is reached).
In simple terms, Clearly in ENTERs from the previous year are just a GUIDE because they dont use this years data. This years data will change and that will ultimately change the clearly in's for courses
I hope that helps :)
-
Dusty I think you are getting confused with previous years clearly in and the current years clearly in.
No one knows the clearly in for this year. Last years clearly ins are a guide.
But it is true that if you get above THIS YEARS clearly in then you get a place 100% (if you meet all the extra requirements and pre-reqs)
-
god guys, how can you still not comprehend this???
the Clearly ins that you read are for 2008. this means that if monash law offered 300 places, and 1000 people aplied, to be accepted into the course, you need to be in the top 300.
In 2008 (FOR EXAMPLE, the clearly-In was 85.00) that means, that of all the people that applied in 2008, to be in the top 300 you needed a score of 85.00 or more.
thus, the clearly in is 85.00, as those who got 85+, were in the top 300 that applied.
YOU WILL NOT KNOW THE CLEARLY IN UNTIL AFTER THE 2009 OFFERS.
If for some reason half of victoria this year is really interested in doing Psychology at VIC UNI, then no doubt the enter will be High 90's, because of the large amount of people applying, and chances are, that many of them have very high ENTERS.
This means, 2008 clearly in for Psych @ VU: 59.00
2009 Clearly in for Psych @ VU: 97.55
you wont know what the clearly in is, until after the offers are out. So you won't know fore sure if your guaranteed a place. You can make an educated guess, and look at past years Clearly-Ins for a guide.
EXAMPLE:
The course I'm applying for, has had clearly-in scores of:
2006: 74.95
2007: 76.45
2008: 75.00
i am taking a guess that theres not going to be a random increase in demand for the course, and am expecting the clearly-in to be roughly the same as the past 3 years.
So original poster, you got 86.something, the 2008 clearly in was 85.. have you checked the 2007/2006 scores required??
You're gunna have to wait for the offers to come out, cause 2009 VCE may be a cohort that has many interested in Engineering, and the ENTER could be boosted up to 89.00
-
What about courses with a n/a ENTER but they seem to offer only 10 places?
-
like which? each course is unique..
medicine would have a n/a enter because of UMAT, interview etc..
same way Bachelor of Colouring @ RMIT would be n/a.. cause they couldnt give a shit about your ENTER, only your interview/folio etc
-
What about courses with a n/a ENTER but they seem to offer only 10 places?
THose courses might use more than just the ENTER to select students.
-
I thought Medicine had RC not NA.
I always thought that NA was for courses where there aren't enough places to realistically formulate a clearly in because the number of offers are so small that havin a clearly in (and having people use it as a rough guide for the next year) would not be in the best interests of applicants. :S
-
In RMIT, Engineering-Mechanical/Management doesn't have any other requirements..
-
god guys, how can you still not comprehend this???
coz i dont, get over it.
but thanks it makes much more sense. also to costargh thank you.
im wasnt confused, i just didnt understand all of this because it has never been explained to me clearly.
-
is 2009 its first year?
if it is, how could there be a 2008 clearly in for a course that didnt exist.

Thats alright.
I know it can be confusing for some people so we should be patient.
Just so you know though, my old English teacher used to tell me that he looked down on people who answered rhetorical questions.... I never answered another one again :(

lol. meh. i was just answering it to make sure he knew that i didnt understand the whole concept.
i *think* im not sure, but warnambool law is in its first year? the ENTER is 68 CLEARLY in. can there be a sudden jump in CLEARY IN enters, like is ther a major chance i could not get in?
-

Lol, but you have a new thing where you don't want people to know what ENTER you got..!
But since I know it...you'll probably get in; it doesn't usually change by that much.
-
Dusty, Law at Warnambool can't be new because as you've said, last years clearly in was 68...
-
no as in... like last year was the first year. but now that others know about the course being so low... more people might apply
-
It's not probable dusty. The location is not convenient for the majority of students so I doubt you'll see a massive jump in the ENTER. All the best.
-

i agree. where the hell is this waranbaul or whatever. I'm sure if i was very keen on doing law and didn't get the ENTER requirements for any other law course in any other institution, then i still wouldn't apply to that waranbool. It's not worth it in my case. I'd rather do a bridging course or transfer later on to a uni more convenient to were i live. Many applicants would think the same i would assume.

i disagree. I do want to do law, and doing a bridging course is risky. In the end i might not get in at all. Whereas, going to warnambool i'll be doing bachelor of law, i can transfere after a year to the burwood campus and also it will be a good learning experience and to be independant. :) i think some would think that as a positive aspect, i'd assume.

Does the LLB at Warnambool meet the academic requirements for admission to legal practice in Victoria?
-
Yes it does.
Dusty, you do know that only the first 2 years of Law for Deakin are at Warnambool right? (If I am correct)
-
Does the LLB at Warnambool meet the academic requirements for admission to legal practice in Victoria?
on the deakin site it said this
"Admission to legal practice
At present, to qualify for admission as a barrister and solicitor in Victoria, university graduates are required to complete legal traineeships (previously known as articles of clerkship) for one year or to complete a legal practice course such as those offered by the Leo Cussen Institute or Monash University."
Yes it does.

and yeah, after that its moved to Geelong. but a transfere is avaliable to burwood :)

So Dusty, if you do complete a law degree, what do you plan to do with it? Do you wish to become a barrister or something? (just out of interest)
-
yeah sounds good to me if you can afford it. i always wanted to do the whole college experience thing. Do you become a resident at a college in warnambool?

lol i'll eventually get that right and my other spelling. :)
i want to do solicitor work. one night i stayed up until i think it was 3am in the morning searching career paths and things. so i had a long hard think about law before putting warnambool down as a preference.
yeah sounds good to me if you can afford it. i always wanted to do the whole college experience thing. Do you become a resident at a college in warnambool?
its $7000 per year for accomadation, but centerlink should cover that. good old centerlink. i have set aside money for the down payment, which means yes i will become a resident. im really looking forward to see if i get accepted into law and to live on campus. i'll probably be granted to live on campuse because i live so far away. it will be a good learning experience for me anyway :) if i do need any financial support, my parents have set me out a bit of money JUST to help out.
lol, i hope not many spelling errors were made in this :P
-
Have you looked into whether you'd be eligible for CentreLink? I's not as easy as it sounds, unfortunately :(

what do you mean by that? i havent looked into that yet, but if im living away from home... plus studying... arn't i eligible for ABSTUDY? plus rent or board assistance? was meant to look into that before i put preferences in, but never got the chance.
-
^^^
ABSTUDY is only for people over 25....(I think)...
(someone please correct me if im wrong).
If you were applying for anything from Centrelink, then you would be applying for "Youth Allowance"

ohhh okay, well i already get youth allowance :) so living away from home will just be added. if im staying at warnambool, it would be classifed as board... humm..
i think i should really go look this up now. im getting all scared ^^
-
Yeh you should. Also look at University scholarships for moving away. Deakin does have financial assistance for people moving away from home so look into that too. I think its thru the government some sorta moving away from home scholarship
-
You don't just get rent or board assistance just for the hell of it...
Quite a few of my friends are on Youth Allowance (they either have low income parents or they've claimed independence and earnt $15,000 over 18 months or whatever it is). But yeah, look into CentreLink extreeeeemely carefully.

i looked at scholarships... they all seem to be through VTAC it says.
Accommodation scholarships
How to apply
Commencing students - VTAC applicants
VTAC applicants for Deakin Access and Equity Scholarships must apply using the SEAS – Access and Equity online application located on the VTAC website. No additional form will be required.

ABSTUDY is for indigenous students.
You'll be wanting Youth Allowance. There's also Rent Assistance, but I think you generally have to be considered an independent to get that.

if i moved to warnambool, thats pretty independant :P
also, ive had living away youth allowance before + rent assisntance. but im pretty sure living at deakin warnmbool would be classified as board? because i get 3 dinners per week and the rest i gotta find myself :P greattttt
