Never heard of it
-
Lowest level of maths
-
AFAIK it doesn't count towards your ENTER score
-
wow easier than Further? I didn't know that was possible
-
Students completing this course would need to undertake further mathematical study in order to attempt Further Mathematics Units 3 and 4.
Foundation Maths
-
I presume it's not such a popular subject
-
Well it depends, students that are not so strong in maths will most likely pick foundation mathematics. From memory im pretty sure in year 11 you do Foundation but in yr 12 you wont continue so that means no maths for year 12.
-
Apparently the foundation maths students at our school this year got to go to Hungry Jacks and measure the length of the fries and record the prices of food etc. It was either the foundation class or the further class, although I don't see the further maths people doing this.

Wow so that's what foundation maths is...
-
I know this is sort of bumping but I don't want to create a new thread for this question...
Is my school the ONLY one who put foundation in Year 10 instead of Year 11 as kids were to bad at math to do Mainstream or Extension and to...save them from foundation in a...slightly harder year?
-
Our school has core B maths which is like...a lead up to foundation :S
-
isnt foundation mathematics the one that terminates in yr 11?
:s
-
Yes.

LOL Have fun would that be
-
Remember special maths? Those kids got so much shit.
-
LOL foundation maths is only for 1/2 isnt it?
-
its for poeple who wants to do math but struggle in further/methods and spesh

Nice speeling.

-
what year level maths can you compare foundation maths with?
-
grade 3 in Holland :P
-
it's for dumb assess that like to do vcal mostly
-
Its pretty much grade 5 maths- no jokes.
I have some people at my school who do it, they do the 'shading of a pie-put it into a fraction' stuff. The people that do it aren't dumb asses, they just ceebs with math/want to do a trade.
-
Well I know at my school they do some very complex tasks in foundation....
This is what I've witnessed occur in a foundation class:
- They tied barbie dolls to pieces of string to see how far they could throw them, for a double period. I could see them on the oval, I was like wtf are they doing. (Still don't understand how they could justify it's relevance to maths..)
- The did nets of shapes on there exam, apparently it had the net of a square and yet still some people failed.
- Baking a cake, and they got absolutely NO help with measurements. So glad I'm doing methods I don't think I could cope with foundations difficulty..
-
Phillip has 2 oranges, and 2 apples.
How many oranges does Phillip have?
-
i don't know why people are paying out those who do further / foundation, they may have a learning difficulty like for example my brother. So until you guys know anything about the people that undertake this kind of learning, there's no need to comment negatively towards. You guys should be greatful that at you are fortunate to be succesful in academics.
@ hutchoo
Why is it necessary to comment upon one's spelling and belittle them by crushing their dreams of 96+. I couldn't give two shits that you're in year 10, for all I care you lack the maturity and basic human interaction skills to survive in UNI or elsewhere, even if you can do a few sums or remember a few words.

Lol talk about ironic

IT gives me the shits, when some people think they're on top of the world becuase they're good at school
-
I actually think foundation maths is a good initiative. Not everyone's good at school - everyone has different strengths - but basic mathematical knowledge is essential. I think it's positive that there's a course encouraging students who wouldn't otherwise have persisted with mathematics to develop mathematical skills.

Well said.
-
would u call 'shading in parts of a pie' (aka grade 2 Western suburbs maths) maths?
its just a way to pass year 11 for them i guess... before entering an apprenticeship...

your pretty witty aren't you ..
I applaud you at your attempts to demean people, but next time please use more generalizations,

didnt mean to offend. just stating the truth form what i saw of the yr 11s when i was in a school in the West.
