Title: Stupid QTAC
Post by: ed_saifa on December 29, 2008, 12:26:25 pm
I applied for courses via QTAC and just found out that I am not able to do many of the courses because I did English Language instead of English, Lit or ESL. Hence not meeting the English prerequisites for most courses.  >:(

Yes, Q is for Queensland. Guys, it take literally two seconds to research something rather than post questions about what it is (just a pet peeve of mine...)

Anyway, what gives you the impression EL doesn't count? This page says "English or equivalent", which may include EL?

The QTAC site seems predominantly aimed at Queenslanders, so it's hard to know, but I suggest you call them to make sure. Plus, the same page links to other ways to satisfy the requirement.

I did call and they said English Language isn't comparable to their English.

Wtf? Did you mention that for VCE it is necessary to take one form of English (English, English ESL, Literature, English Language) and that any single one of these is seen as your English mark? And that when Victorian universities have a prereq of >25 in English, they mean one of these four English subjects?
That's really bizarre. It would make no sense whatsoever to restrict students like that.

Or maybe try calling the unis that you need the pre req for. Maybe they'll be more understanding...

I don't think it has a page for it. But when you lodge your preferences, it will show whether you met the requirement for English.
