Hi Steph,

Melbourne University doesn't offer undergraduate Law anymore (meaning you can't go straight from year 12 into law anymore).

LaTrobe Uni 97.4 (although double degrees have a lower ENTER eg. Arts/Law = 95.5
Deakin 93.75 (Melbourne Campus (Burwood)) - Geelong (85.2) and Warnanbool(68.4) are lower.
Vic Uni- 86.7

The best one is debatable. Probably LaTrobe although if you live in the South East suburbs like me you probably wouldnt want the inconvinience of travelling to Bundoora everyday. In that case Deakin would be a great alternative. I very nearly choose to do Law/Commerce at Deakin but chickened out becuase I didnt want to study law lol.

They are the only places you can study law in Victoria.

if you don't mind moving, ANU. you need an ENTER of 95 atleast.

why are double degrees harder to get into?
i would say the opposite, depending on the uni and such.

Yeh it depends on the  Uni and course. It just so happens that in this instance a law single degree at La Trobe has a higher required ENTER than the double degrees.

I meant at LaTrobe. I just thought it was weird that a Law degree would be harder to get into then an Arts-Law degree.

Because their Arts/Law degree is not as popular as their Law degree.

it is interesting to ponder why the clearly-in ENTER for Arts/Law would be lower than Law.

Taking the linguistic analogy of the ENTER to a price paid:
It is as if Arts has such a negative affect on your well-being or something that people would effectively pay a premium to avoid it.

La Trobe University Clearly-In (Law double degrees)
Law/Accounting 95.10
Law/Arts          95.50
Law/Business    96.30
Law/Finance     94.80
Law/International Relations   96.15
Law/Media Studies    93.00
Law/Psychological Science   95.60
Law/Science    96.70

Law with Accounting, Finance and Media Studies has a lower ENTER than with Arts, (and Psychological Science is only .10 over Arts)

I think the clearly in ENTER for Monash Law is higher than the clearly in ENTER for Monash Commerce/Law

Why? I didn't dispute costargh's statement:

The only reason why I can see a law double degree having a lower enter than a straight law degree, is that a straight law degree provides a faster path towards the legal profession.

So that says that applicants to La Trobe believe that that forgone income and cost associated with a double degree over a straight law degree isn't worth it.

On a side note there seems to be many courses that are restricted to local students only. I wonder why they have done that.

Actually browsing through the la trobe website, it looks like you would qualify for LLB/BEcon LLB/Commerce at La Trobe costargh, why not go for it? They only require 20 for methods.

Hey, yeh I was aware oof that. I cooda done Law at Deakin also. I made a decision that I really didnt wannaa study law. I wanted to pursue areas of commerce/business more than my desire to study law.

Yeh there is a possibility that I might be able to enrol in that subject using the CAP (community Access Program). Do you know anythign about that?

If I enrolled in that in first semester I could possibly get in second semester entry. Alternatively I can do a subject called UniLearn online which is equivalent to Methods but I need 75% in that for them  to consider it as taking the place of a 25 in methods.
I'd presume I'd only need a Pass in that melb uni subject plus a good average  in my course in first semester (the lady on phone said 70% but not too sure how true that is because another lady told me they look at VCE results and Uni results together and because i have a high ENTER there's a good chance I'd get a spot if any spots were avauilable for sem 2)

Weird, no idea why I didn't look up LaTrobe for Law. Oh well.
