Title: Recommend me some classic fiction!
Post by: Noblesse on March 12, 2009, 06:17:28 pm: Well I'm about to finish the greatest series of all time (Harry Potter duh!) for the 20^09th time, and I am in need of some recommendations for my next adventure :) I've recently discovered the many libraries at Melbourne University, so most books are easily available.

So anyway, I would love recommendations of books concerning:
Gothic fiction/romance
Victorian literature
Classic fiction

I've read most of the standards, eg. Pride and Prejudice, Vanity Fair etc. etc. but does anyone have any *less* well known classics, eg. Wuthering Heights they could recommend me? Thanks :)

the 'real' classics: e.g. The Odyssey, Oedipus Rex
Jane Eyre
Orlando (20th century I'm pretty sure, but it kind of critiques the Victorian era)

ummm... that's all I can think of at the moment...

I'm not picky about the time period really, I just love the delicious writing style which was fairly abundant in those times. As opposed to the more 'to-the-point' writing style which is rather popular nowdays, eg. Twilght; which in my opinion insults the intelligence of the reader.

Ugh that book depressed me so much. I wanted them to be rich like Darcy/Bingley + Lizzie/Jane :(
