Title: What is this I don't even...
Post by: Noblesse on March 19, 2010, 11:20:53 pm
Just received this forward email from an old friend:

Quote
Our Australia

FROM  DR EARNEST TAYLOR (Ret) WHO MIGRATED TO AUSTRALIA

I  emigrated to Australia just over 45 years ago – On the  ship there were Poms, Italians, Yugoslavs and Greeks,  (Note – All European people!!) all looking forward  to starting a new life in Australia.  I arrived  with 42 pounds  in my pocket and that’s all I had to my name.   Did I put my hand out?? Of course not – I  got a job and paid my way just like everyone else who  came to this country back then.

Now,  it’s my taxes that subsidize these people who think they  have Gods given right (read Allah) to come here and  criticise  those of us who have worked for the  country we now call home.

If  I didn’t like what I saw when I got here I would have  gone home – they have the same option.  If they  don’t want to become an Australian, they can…………….GO  BACK TO WHERE THEY CAME FROM – WE DON’T NEED THEM  HERE!!!

Our  Australia
When  will this stop,
They  want two of their own public holidays, because  Christians have Christmas, Easter & good  Friday,
They  force our children to eat Halal Meat Pies and  Sausage Rolls from the school canteens, so the  Muslim kids can feel more Aussie, we were not  consulted about this change, they went ahead and  just did it.
Our  foods are slowly all becoming Halal foods, our  Bega cheeses, Cadbury chocolates even good old Sanitarium  foods show the halal logo

Our  Government is ALLOWING this to happen, it has to  stop now, while we still have some people power to be  able to stop it.

Regarding   Our National Anthem

I  am  sorry, but after hearing they want to sing the  National Anthem in  Arabic -  enough is enough.  No where or at no other  time in our nation's history, did they  sing it in Italian, Japanese, Polish, Irish (Celtic), German, Portuguese, Greek, or  any other language  because of immigration.  It was written in English, and should be  sung word for word the way it was   written.

The  news broadcasts  even gave the translation -- not even   close.

I am  not sorry if this  offends anyone, but this is MY COUNTRY - IF IT IS   YOUR COUNTRY SPEAK UP ----and please pass  this  along

I am  not against  immigration -- just come through like everyone  else.  Get a sponsor; have a place to lay  your head; have a job; pay  your taxes, live by the rules AND LEARN THE LANGUAGE as all   other immigrants have in the past -- and  LONG LIVE Australia  !

PART  OF  THE PROBLEM. Think about this:  If you don't want  to forward  this for fear of offending  someone-----YOU'RE PART OF THE PROBLEM   !!!!

Will  we still have  our Country of Choice and still be Australian if  we  continue to make the changes forced on  us by the people from  other countries who  have come to live in Australia because it is their  Country of Choice??
And by our politicians who are allowing this to happen.
Think  about  it!

IMMIGRANTS,  NOT  AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT.

It  is Time  for  Australia  to   Speak up.

I'm nauseated, and contemplating sending a reply....

ok i agree some people (a small minority) should make more of an effort to assimilate but obviously this person is just some pissed off douche bag with too much free time

and whats wrong with halal meat? i seriously would not care if ate it or not, is there even a difference?

personally i feel the government should step back from immigration policy, open the door a bit and watch our population and economy boom

@*ryan777* How would our economy boom?

EDIT:
What would they bring with them to value add?

Possibly Money, though in most cases I assume they possess little.

Possibly skills, more hopeful here, though I don't know the actual levels most immigrate with.

@*ryan777* How would our economy boom?

population increases demand, demand means more jobs, jobs means money, money means the word keeps spinning etc etc
ok ill retract my usage of "boom" but an increasing population is more than likely going to help the economy grow

Yes that is true.

The main factor here is ensuring that they enter the work force, otherwise, by my logic, they will be a drag on the economy.

Population of Australia: ~21 million, Area: 7,692,024 km2
Population of Germany: ~85 million, Area: 357,114km2

Germany used just as a reference. WE NEED PEOPLE

And actually, some of the things written in that email aren't all that crazy. I mean, I'm all in favour of immigration and I think that's one of our biggest strong points (my parents fled communist Poland to come here). But, that doesn't mean we should allow our national identity to be sacrificed for multiculturalism. If you make the choice to come to Australia (talking about people who go through the immigration process, not refugees or asylum seekers) then I believe that decision should be accompanied with your interest and willingness to accept most Australian values.

Yeah I know. I'm not against letting them in. I think we should. I just don't know where we'd put them. Our cities are pretty much at their limit for size; Melbourne keeps building outwards. Perth and maybe Darwin might be good spots but they're probably pushing their resources enough as it is.

I'm no expert just bouncing off ideas, but wouldn't that mean we're in need of upgrading our cities infrastructures? Or perhaps more boldly, building new cities? Just from observation, for instance the drive from Melbourne to Sydney is so ridiculously boring because there's simply nothing. Just empty fields and the occasional cow which gets you excited. I guess the water problem arises too, but then desalination?

building new cities would be ideal....in the ideal world

in reality nobody is going to move out to the middle of nowhere in hope a few other thousand ppl do the same

the key imo, is to further ease land/building restrictions in the current cities, there are quite a lot of people on the outer fringes of cities (way too far out for a city of 3~4million) that would love to move inwards but the current level of supply (i blame government restrictions) doesnt allow it to happen

You realise most of Australia is uninhabitable desert right?

Almost everyone lives along the costal regions and with the water shortages we're going through i reckon we're close to reaching out carrying capacity unless they do something to improve that.

I agree with this guy in terms of his "immigrants should adapt, not australia" policy. If you want your culture to be recognised it seems logical to do so where your culture is already widely accepted rather than force others to accept your culture. I mean would anyone here go to an islamic country, form together with a bunch of self-righteous people and demand non-halal meat be available in their markets?

and in regards to having a low population it seems like a good thing. depite our meagre population in terms of the land we have we're still struggling to find jobs for everyone, there's drought which would worsen were there more people. Look at china, there's famine and overcrowding there and it's not a good thing

i'm not like the guy in the first post I don't believe immigration should be barred and we shouldn't be accepting, but we shouldn't have other cultures forced on us when it's the immigrants choice to move out of that country. other than if your country's wartorn wouldn't your main reason to move be a change of scenery (if it's completely voluntary, not for work or anything like that)?

once again i'm not racist or anti-immigration but I think that immigrants should be more accepting of our culture than we have to be of their's (not to say we shouldn't accept their's at all)

My opinion: Racist, uneducated bogans need to realise that roughly 100,000 skilled immigrants come into the country each year and boost our economy while humanitarian immigration (read: refugees) is like 10,000. Assuming that we are talking about the 10,000 because no rational person disagrees with skilled immigration then the one thing i would like to see is tougher policing on these refugees. Anyone who is offered welfare and haven in Australia who then commits an indictable offence, or multiple summary offences, should be deported and someone else offered a place in this great country. Also, skilled immigration do not 'take our jobs' because they employ in areas with skill shortages (currently accounting, doctors and engineers i believe) and will most likely then create employment.

+1 to Spreadbury

While I'm probably the last person to be a nationalist or concerned about protecting Australia's "national identity" (whatever the hell that means), but the letter did raise a good point, whether intentional or not. Think about it on a smaller scale: Let's say you're at a party, what are the odds that someone would talk to you if you sat in the corner listening to your ipod? Similarly, new immigrants are more likely to congregate within their circle rather than mix with the wider community. It's only natural to do so but from the side of the society at large, this comes across as being hostile. And I don't really think I need to add about what comes after.

I believe anyone who is willing to contribute, and possesses the capability to execute it, are free to do so. However, blatant immigration is not the answer
