ChemNotes says that colorimetry is qualitative and quantitative. I understand how it is quantitative, but how is colorimetry qualitative?

Also, I know that this is not a colorimetry question, but ill ask it anyway:

Why does the wavenumber-transmittance spectrum have troughs at different wavelengths, and what is the significance of wavenumber?
