I can think of no greater proponent of the American Dream than Oprah. Somehow that also manages to be congrous with the peddling of new age crap, like the Secret (all you have to do is want it bad enough and you'll get it type mentality).
I don't know how I feel about Oprah. I think she is a bit self-centred and very self-congratulatory but she is also largely tolerant and I think in some ways she has helped Americans and I wouldn't call her a very destructive force. If US politics were ran by people who took Oprah's advice seriously, policy may be misinformed, but overall it would be less evil.
