Title: Scores
Post by: nubs on July 27, 2011, 11:41:15 pm
How many marks would you think will be needed out of 122 to get a percentile of 90 or higher?

A fair few.

No one really knows how marks work because ACER does mysterious scaling to the questions and you will get a scaled "score" for each section which helps determine your percentile. This score is not a percentage or the number of marks you receieved.

Yeah I know, but I was just hoping someone could just give me an idea. But going by previous years, would you think you'd need at least 90 marks, 100 marks etc or is there no possible way you could tell

Pretty sure there's no way to tell. ACER never release raw scores. I guess you could go off practice paper scores... but these can be vastly different to how you go in the real thing.

See attached, no one knows how many marks are allocated per question, so don't bother trying to work it out...

fucking acer, giving people differnet questions and expecting it to be fair.

The statistical moderation done on the tests allows them to do that, the questions are graded and assigned marks based on (amongst other things) how many students get them right

acer are pretty vague about their results and interview cut offs. This website has pretty good info about uni interview requirements and eveything like that for umat: <snip> it really helped me (i sat the UMAT this year too) :D

russ: he is banned, we just missed that one when we were cleaning up after him

------

and on a side note, people usually say if you get about 75% of the questions right you get 100th %ile

the thing im worried about is, judging by people's proclomations, it was supposedly an easy umat, i dont subscribe to that opinion, i thoight it was hard. Do you know if people were saying same things last year?

i think i did badly, im expecting around 70-80. WHen i say badly, im comparing it to the amount of work i did, which was heapsQ!

^ Exactly. Although I thought S1 and S3 were somewhat accessible, it's hard to say how well you think you went - considering you don't really have any true idea of the answer...

Well my opinion is that S1 was quite easy - but S1 is my strongest section
I found that S2 was near impossible, i basically 50-50'd most of the question - but S2 is my weakest section
And i found that S3 was very easy - but many people say that and I reckon I'm good at S3

Moral of the story - difficulty is perceptive - you can't say if its a hard UMAT or an easy UMAT :P
