Just wanted to know if a methods (cas) TSFX lecture would be helpful (mostly notes-wise) for end of years?
Ive only done physics and chem mid yr TSFX lectures and am just keen on getting the notes...
So would methods lecture have any unique notes to get?
thanks

I haven't been to any maths lectures before, but you can buy just the notes from some companies without attending the lecture. I think you can do that with Connect Education and there's Derrick Ha's book.
You could always go to the free Victoria Uni lecture if you want to save the money. I think they give out notes. (not too sure on that actually).
-
I've heard Irena teaches TSFX methods. So in short, no, they probably aren't helpful.
-
If you want notes then buy derrick ha's bounded notes.
They are really useful and also contain his own trial exams with difficult questions and worked solutions.
It is $60 not including postage.

His raw scores are 48 english, 50 for english language, methods, chem, accounting and spesh and 5.5 uni maths

cool, ill go for them - im guessing they are better than the companies?

LOL - it's funny cause it's soooooo true! If everyone sees that post no one will go to methods @ TSFX lol.
thanks

in the most unbiased way possible, connect is awesome! okay thats pretty biased...
but seriously, the reviews we're getting at connect are awesome, a big part of it is that all our lecturer's are students, and have finished VCE very recently - so we know what you find difficult, because we've been there and done that. Especially for a subject like methods, where a lot of teachers know nothing about the calculator, but at connect we can show you all of that :)
so check us out, and if you do come to the connect lecture for methods, say hi to me, i'll be the super cute guy at the front :P

Damn, with Trammy and Babes taking that lecture - Connect could even rival Derrick Ha!
Go at it guys, highly recommended. Abes went to my school - amazing teacher.

Wonder who that is... :P

ill give you a short answer and a long answer (:
short answer:
no they're not helpful (even though ive never been to a lecture before)
long answer:
they're not helpful because theres not that much information that they can impart with you in one single day to be honest
and secondly with notes, do you really need them
we're talking about maths, if it were a science subject, then yeah i guess notes come in handy
but maths is very skills based, like i havent even made any notes and i rarely take any notes in class this year ;D hahah (immaa lazy bumm)
so i dont think that maths notes will help you much to be honest
what could their notes offer you that a textbook cant offer you :P
-
I'm giving a lecture to my school for Methods in October, and I don't think i'm actualyl going to write notes as such - I might give them note headers so they can write notes how they want - but I'll be focusing mainly on problem solving

maths is understanding based. theres so much that you can't write in a book and if you ask anyone who came to the mid year lectures, they'll know what i mean, and obviously i'll walk you through whats ACTUALLY going on with lots of things, big or small, like what circular functions REALLY do and WHY y^2=9 has two solutions but root(9) is only positive 3, or why root(x^2) is not the same as [root(x)]^2 and lots of other really tiny intricate things like that.
as for the notes, they can give you the calculator method to do everything, and how to get through the MC part of the exam in 10 minutes with your calculator. If you come along, i think you may just change your mind :)
oh, and thushan, i love you <3

Some strapping young fella by the sounds of it, he really does sound like the type of person everyone should know.

TSFX is shit in general. End of story.
-
Yeah look I think they can be useful, but it depends on where you personally are at. I won't give any opinions on the actual companies as I'm supposed to be impartial.
But I will probably go with saying that Daniel, Abe, and Derrick Ha are more attractive than the lecturers at the other big companies.
Remember to share your experiences (both positive and negative) in the lecture part of the new "tutoring" section!

hmmmmmm :/ I think if someone hasn't used a company, take their review with a grain of salt. That goes for TSFX, NEAP, Connect (yes, even Connect! (but i have heard good things)) and the rest. Remember: People do rely on the information you are giving so make sure you have something to back it up. At least Paul said he hasn't gone to one.
Look, it depends on your learning style and the lecturer. I've been to D.Ha for his summer holidays program and he was brilliant, going to his lecture this year too. I went to TSFX last year for yr11 and it wasn't so good in my opinion, but it depends on the lecturer as well. Lectures are a good way of revising the course in half a day. I go to a lecture to find out where my weak points are, not to learn concepts. If that's how you are going to treat it, then they would be useful. If you want to learn then self study/private tutor is the way to go.

hmm, i'm actually considering coming to the connect spesh lectures :D
i was talking to "luffy" today, and if he's coming then i guess i shall come too :D

hahah, i put the disclaimer that I hadn't been to a lecture for a reason, so that anyone reading it would take what I say with a grain of salt :)
but i was just basing my information on what friends and teachers say about lectures :)

LOL Paul! haha. I'm not going buddy. Sorry, I just don't deem it necessary for myself in spesh... However, I can see how it could be useful for others. I have never been to a lecture before, but I was seriously considering attending one for English Language. I'll see how it goes.

Concur, I saw two pages of his epic notes. :D And gave him a shorter solution :P
