Post by: sararara565 on September 23, 2011, 08:45:36 pm
hi everyone im currently writing notes for the exam and i was wondering what the study design dot point "the context which contributes to the unique nature of large-scale organisations" means. Does anyone have any notes on this?

This dot point may just get up on the exam this year:

-LSOs can mass produce goods and services and make a significant contribution to economic growth
-LSOs can produce goods and services more efficiently because of their large number of staff and ability to specialise
-LSOs have access to vast amounts of capital to operate and expand their business
-LSOs can produce goods and services more cheaply; costs are spread over a greater number of units
-LSOs may have more political influence on governments because of their size
-LSOs have complex management structures due to their size and complexity

... quite sure it refers to the industries (as well)

PRIMARY - agriculture, mining, fishing ect
SECONDARY - manufacturing and processing ect
TERTIARY - service sector

These are important so make sure you are aware of the differences between them!

EDIT: "from my updated notes thanks to waldo777's comment above"

Organisations:
-   Can achieve things that individuals cannot alone (therefore comprise of 2 or more people)
-   Can produce goods and services more efficiently due to their large number of staff and ability to specialise (done at a reduced cost)
-   Provide an important source of employment
-   Have complex management structures due to their size and complexity (formal or informal)
-       Have a purpose

There are three main industries:
-   Primary (mining, agriculture, fishing, forestry)
-   Secondary (manufacturing, processing, construction)
-   Tertiary
              - Quaternary (service sector, IT, finance)
              - Quinary (hospitality, health, domestic services – paid and unpaid)

I think this relates more to the study design point
- contributions, both positive and negative, of large-scale organisations to the economy

Dp (dot point in this context) no. 1 AOS1

I just put what an org is "
•   a formal structured arrangement
•   comprised of two or more people
•   working to achieve a specific purpose
•   or set goals."
and a picture of the typical man. functions structure

I'm not really sure what that dp means... but I'm adding what RossiJ said too - just on case :)
